Bengaluru, Apr 10: In what seemed like a scene straight out from a movie, an insane adventure by a techie couple almost cost them their lives, and resulted in a jeep-train collision, besides disrupting train service in Ramanagara near here on Saturday, April 9. Luckily no casualities were reported.
Sandeep, a techie from Kothanur and his techie wife Pratibha were going to Mysuru by jeep. When they approached Basavanpura near Ramanagara they saw a cliff beside the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway on the other side of the railway tracks. With little thought to the consequences, the couple decided to get adventurous and drive cross the railway tracks to reach the cliff. Another source said that they had wanted to stop their jeep on the railway tracks and take a selfie.
Whatever the purpose, Sandeep drove the jeep on to the track, but things went wrong when only the front tyres of the jeep moved forward. The jeep remained trapped with the rear tyres failing to move. By that time Mangala Express had left Ramanagara railway station, located just 5 kilometres away from the spot.
Sandeep kept on trying to move the jeep frontwards and backwards to get out from the trap. When the train almost reached the jeep, the techie couple jumped out and managed to save themselves.
The train hit the jeep hard pushing it about 20 metres away. The train driver stopped the train and with the help of guard, informed the police about the incident. Railway staff rushed to the spot and helped in clearing the jeep from the tracks. But a lot of time was wasted in this process delaying the onward journey of the train. Other train services between Bengaluru and Mysuru were also affected due to this adventure of the techie couple.
A case was registered against the couple and they were detained, sources said.
