Penalty for Akrama-Sakrama regularization slashed across state

Bengaluru, May 4: The penalty amount payable by residents for regularisation of unauthorised houses constructed on government or revenue lands in urban and rural areas in the Karnataka has been slashed.

A decision to lower the penalty amount payable for the regularisation of Akrama-Sakrama regularisation of unauthorised construction in revenue lands was taken by the State Cabinet at its meeting held in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Under the Akrama-Sakrama scheme, the State Cabinet it has fixed the penalty amount to be paid by residents, who constructed houses unauthorisedly on government lands in the peripheral limits of urban areas and rural areas.

The State Cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah fixed the penalty at Rs 10,000 for regularisation of house constructions built on 20x30 sq.ft. sites in urban areas. 

In rural areas, the penalty amount has been fixed at Rs, 2000, Rs 4,000 and Rs 6,000 for houses constructed on 30x40 sq.ft., 40x60 sq.ft. and 50x80 sq.ft. respectively.

Earlier, the penalty amount was fixed on sq.ft. basis and it was considered enormous burden to families to regularise houses constructed houses in revenue lands in urban and rural areas.

Briefing reporters on the decisions taken at the State Cabinet meeting, Karnataka’s Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra said in urban areas, 50 per cent discount in the penalty has been offered to owners of houses belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and ex-servicemen. 

These families have to pay only Rs 5,000 per regularisation of constructions in urban areas, he explained.
