Udupi, May 23: The Santhekatte national highway- 66, near here has been identified as a busy traffic area on Sundays.




Members of Tulunada Rakshana vedike gathered at Santhekatte weekly market to create awareness among the vegetable merchants on Sunday May 22.

Usually, the merchants come on Saturday nights with their luggage and has planted flower saplings.

As disclosed by the public, emergency patient died in an ambulance near KG Road two weeks back on the flyover from Brahmavar to Manipal.

Lack of parking place is another bane to Santhekatte. Even on being warned, the vehicle owners park their vehicles on the highway assuming that they will be back in two minutes.

The highway work is in good progress and the service road is almost complete at Santhekatte, but the highway authority does not permit the movement of vehicles. Hence, people have to come a little further towards the highway.

CMC has submitted a proposal to the DC regarding shifting of the market to behind the Veerabhadhra temple of Kallianpur. It is government land, estimated to be one acre, but the proposal is yet to be discussed at the meeting.

The CMC commissioner Manjunathaiah had informed the traffic police officials to clear the traffic which got carried out.

Ivan Richard, Kallianpur unit president says, "It was an awareness campaign for merchants and customers. In addition, the fishermen come to the market, although they have a specific and good marketplace. If they are placed at the same place, more than 50 people can be accommodated in the market and nearly more than 100 vehicles can be parked on sundays.

The members urged the CMC commissioner either to take immediate action or to take on the shifting process.

The camp was led by Yogish Shetty Jeppu.
