Fortuner rams into electric pole - Mangaluru college student among two dead

Mangaluru, Jun 2: Two persons died and six sustained injuries when a Fortuner SUV hit an electric pole at Kunjathur near here.

The incident took place on Thursday, June 2 at 1.30 am.












Munzar from Uppala a student in a Mangaluru college and Farhan from Kunjathur are the persons deceased.

The occupants of Fortuner car were planning to go on an excursion. They had come to Mangaluru to pick a friend and were returning towards Kerala side when the Fortuner hit an electric pole at Kunjathur.

While Munzar died on the spot, Farhan succumbed to injuries later in the morning.

Manjeshwar police have registered a case.

    OMG. Fortuner is one of the sturdy vehicle and the material grade used is very high. Toyota never compromises on safety but in India even Toyota vehicles are like Maruthi. No matter what kind of safety is been provided, Indian driving will kill. This is recklessness to the core. How on earth can a Fortuner become a piece of metal when rammed onto a electric pole? RIP souls.

    First of all no vehicle in this world can be 100% safe. Even crash tests are done under certain speed. If you crash an object at 100kmph nothing in the world would save you.

    Everyone blaming Fortuner...Fortuner passed the crash test..one can see its front portion..it is not smashed and pressed back to harm passengers..main cause of death is not wearing seat belts and not locking the doors from inside...All Toyota cars passed crash test.

    Readers Comments looks more reckless then the speed of car.. Everyone judging deceased blindly without knowing fact. Some blame alcohol/ drunk and drive, luxury lifestyle, Parents, freedom, etc etc..M not here to defend those youths or their parents.. I agree 100% about reckless drive on wet road in these rainy season. Surely over speed which killed them.. It could b anything.. Inexperienced drive, sleep etc.. M here bcz I personally know one of the family and visits to the deceased house @ uppala for 'Janaza'. As we get to know by their close relatives, all are from good family background and Boys were not alcoholic as much as we knew..these youths planned two day trip to Cochin by rented (shared) car (fortuner). Actually none of their parents given permission for this trip but they are been forced to allow for this trip @ last moment. Thinking their classes going to start in few days so there'll b no more chances.. Rest is the story above...Yes all over now but stop blaming only parents, we all got youth in our families we know today's generation and lifestyle.. Indeed hard to control..

    this generation parents I dont understand.
    They think that they in their young age didnt do any activities and give such expensive gifts but ultimately this is the results.
    todays parents are not worried about whether his son/daughter studies they want them to put in a very attractive school/college and give them Spped Bike/Cars and enjoy the life. since they in their teen age were not allowed to do these activities.
    Todays generation we can see either he is interested in mobile/dance but not studies.

    fathers and mothers love = expensive gifts (cars, mobiles, laptops, watches, etc., etc.,)is a modern day malady that befalls many a parents.

    Parents spend less and less time with their children and instead showers them with expensive gifts and justify it by fooling themselves that they want their children to be independent. How independent? only God knows and this could be the result.

    With due respect to departed soul, What makes us parents to give such vehicles/bikes to our children at such young age.

    When group of students get together there is always a tendency to test the vehicles capacity to limit, without realizing the dangers.

    Do we as Parent realise this. So many incidents have happened yet we parents do not learn lessons.

    Fortuner is one of the least safety car by Toyota. We can remember Bondala Jagannath Shetty's accident which resulted fatal for him couple of years back. This car looks premium but failed in several safety tests, what makes funny is this car built on Toyota hilux pickup base. Here in Bahrain, if you have this car people laugh at you.

    Everyone known that over speed is dangerous.So Instead of blaming for over speed or putting fine for over speed , why cant govt make a rule such tht all vehicle manufacturer keep maximum speed limit 50 to 60 km/hr in India?

    Feel sorry for the parents. RIP for the deceased. If you see the report they say 2 died & 6 injured. That is a packed SUV. Its miracle there are survivors if you see the mangled car picture. Important to drive safe with caution no matter how premium is the vehicle it has a limit too.
    Hope other eligible student drivers who drive carelessly see this incident and take cautions.

    Fortuner is not a safe car. It has too much of body roll. Guys please go for safe cars like VW Skoda ford and Chevrolet cars, these Japanese and Korean cars might be cheap to maintain bcoz they use substandard parts not good one. Plz look for a safety first don't buy these cans. Don't mind to spend extra on safety. Really sad young lives are lost. These youngsters drives like a crazy.     Mr. Abdul, just because two young boys died here, you mean to say cars other than you suggest are manufactured people to die ? Any cars even Mercedes, Volvo or BMW are not safe if driven carelessly. To met with an accident it does not need all the occupants of the car should get drunk. Careless driver at middle of the night killed two and put others in trouble, that's it.

    I really dont understand your comment. Good thing that was a ``luxury'' Toyota fortuner. If it was a some ''cheap'' car like alto or nano, all of them would have been dead.

    Its always wrong to assume that if i give a car to my kid to drive around, it shows that i am rich or i want to pamper my kid. I would be giving the car to my kid, so that in case of accident he/she would have better chance of survival than if he/she would be in a two wheeler.

    The condition of the car says that they were at top speed!

    Another thing we cannot say what would have been the casualty if it was a low ended car because there are so many instances where people have fallen fro a bed and died whereas some falling down 4 or more floors have survived with minor injuries, just an example!

    There is nothing called safe when the driver misuses the machine, referring to this case!

    Though the chances of perishing in a low end car crash is more, the outcome of the crash would be due multiple factors, hence there is no guarantee of any machine, you might be knowing Titanic story!

    that sounds stupid comment to say that I will give my car to my kid... till he is matured enough to drive on the road, especially a SUV like vehicle. You can't justify you can give the car to avoid a 2 wheeler. by giving the kids such huge vehicles you are basically pushing him to a death trap. Also it's a major problem for others on the road. Some times because of mistakes of stupid people, other pay for it... other die in such accidents. 

    So, please wait for them to grow, become matured enough to drive the vehicle, have a valid license and then give what ever you want, could be an SUV or a Truck.. public don't care.

    To drive a truck also, heavy drivers license is required....till then do not allow them to drive....some times the parents feel proud if their children drive the vehicles, when they are STILL young.... if the careless youngsters want to drive, let them drive, BUT let them not put the other public on roads in danger...

    Small observation. In India fortuner owners think that it is a war tank and they have every right to cruise as they wish. However in ME these fortuner is called as "Tin on Wheels", as it bounces. of course its an extension of Hylux.
    Our society need to be educated regarding defensive driving, to save precious life.

    what an accident. OMG. look at the condition of the SUV. That evidences the extreme friction between car and the pole and in turn the speed with which vehicle collided with the pole. What a speed it could be at. Someone talking about airbag.... boss... it must be blown, torn off and burnt also. Vehicle also looks burnt. Let's not play blame game than realizing speed is the only reason for such disasters.

    Airbags get activated only if seatbelts are fastened. Otherwise force from airbag activation only harms the face.
    Airbags are SRS i.e Secondary Restraint System where as seatbelts are PRS i.e Primary Restraint System in a passenger vehicle.

    Seat headrests, strengthened Body steel Structures, ABS brakes,Airbags etc all contribute to safety of passengers.

    Just imagine the impact of collision and guess about its speed..even the vehicle like Fortuner couldn't withstand & turned to a rubble..people may be died due to thrown out of vehicle...Thats why locking of doors and seat belts lower the risks.
