Udupi, Jul 6: Bhoomi and Vasathi Hakku Vanchitar Horata Samiti (BVHVH) members held a press meet at TMA Pai Hindi Bhavan, Manipal here on Wednesday, July 6 and demanded sites for homeless and oppressed classes.

Addressing the reporters, Sirimane Nagraj said, “The process of land distribution is centralized. Government lands are used for commercial purposes instead of developing agricultural sector. According to the state government, five acres of agriculture land should be provided to poor people who are farmers. Nearly 16 to 18 farmer’s organizations have joined together to fight for the welfare of the oppressed classes.”

“Members of dalit and tribal communities are deprived of basic amenities and still struggling to get a piece of land for housing.”

“The committee members have recommended seven different demands to be fulfilled by the government. The committee will hold a protest meet in front of DC’s office on July 20. During the protest a memorandum will be submitted to local MLA, MPs and all concerned departments, demanding to fulfil their demands.”

“The government should address our problems before August 19. Otherwise after August 20, committee members will boycott all programmes in the district,” said Nagraj.
