Bengaluru, Aug 6: The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) which was probing the rape and murder of Sowjanya has concluded that Dharmasthala Heggade family had no role to play in the said murder.
The report prepared by the CBI will be submitted soon, it is gathered from sources.
Sowjanya, 17-year-old second year PUC student of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara college, Ujire was found raped and murdered in cold blood on October 10, 2012 about eight kilometres away from Dharmasthala. Her dead body was found by the villagers in a wooded area near her house.
The rape and murder were caused by the accused Santhosh, says the report. Santosh was arrested by police relating to the case.
CBI in its report says that there is absolutely no evidence to prove that the family of Dharmadhikari Veerendra Heggade is involved in the rape and murder in any way.
Protests had taken place from some quarters accusing the powerful people of being involved the brutal rape and murder.
The criminal investigations department (CID) was probing the case earlier, but it was subsequently handed over to CBI on 6 November in 2013.
