Mangaluru, Aug 7: The district unit of Aam Aadmi Party has strongly condemned the 'indifferent attitude' of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel towards the problems of fellow Kannadigas in North Karnataka for reportedly boycotting a meeting with chief minister on the Mahadayi water issue.
In a press release, AAP DK unit stated, "The interim order of the Tribunal on the Mahadayi issue has come as a shock to the people due to Karnataka's side being inadequately presented during the arguments. It was the collective failure of the elected representatives - 225 MLAs and 28 MPs to act in unison to safeguard the interest of Karnataka. Realising their folly, Congress-led Karnataka government had called an all party meeting on Sunday August 7 to discuss the future line of action. It is reported in the Sunday newspapers that BJP MP Nalin Kumar Kateel is boycotting this meeting citing inaction from the chief minister to call a meeting to discuss the Yettinahole project.
"The people of Karnataka have elected these persons to safeguard the interest of the Kannadigas. By not taking up this issue at the central level, the BJP MPs have betrayed the trust of the Kannadigas. In this regard, AAP had demanded that all BJP MPs stand united and pressurize the PM to intervene and get justice to Karnataka in this Mahadayi issue.
"AAP even submitted a petition asking Nalin Kumar Kateel to take up this cause with the central government or resign. But the BJP MP is unmoved by the injustice meted out to the Karnataka. Instead of participating in the all-party meet he is boycotting the same, citing Yettinahole project. It is obvious that the BJP MP does not understand the importance of two different subjects - Mahadaayi and Yettinahole. The dismal plight of North Karnataka people, who are directly affected by the Tribunal order, are of no concern to him and his party. This action of his has clearly demonstrated that BJP as a party is clearly working against the interest of Karnataka and is involved in cheap and dirty politics," AAP alleged.
"The irresponsible and indifferent attitude of the BJP MPs and in particular Nalin Kumar Kateel towards the interest of Karnataka public is not acceptable. AAP, on behalf of Karnataka public, strongly condemning the attitude of the BJP MP, questions their basic right to remain as MPs and demands explanation for letting down the Karnataka," the release stated.
