Mangalore, Jan 3: A dance troupe, consisting of about 40 artistes from the north-eastern state of Manipur, headed by Dr Nara Singh, former MLA, would stage various folk dances of Manipur under the banner of Indian People Theatre Association at Alva's Virasat, Moodbidri, and at Gurukul school in Mala village, located near Kudremukh and at the lawns of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) club, on January 3, January 4 and January 5 respectively.
Conducting of the programme is conceived mainly to cater to the promotion of national unity and integrity with the strong belief that culture unites people. Cultural performances bring in the radical changes in the mindsets of people and assists in filling the void of the differences which are mainly geographical, said Dr Nara Singh while addressing media persons at the press conference, here on Thursday January 3. He also demanded that Manipur should be declared as the culture capital of the nation.
Manipur has been labeled as the state vulnerable to terrorists who dissuade the people from other parts of the country to visit the places of interest in Manipur. However, the terrorist attack does not occur at all times. The cultural performances, in fact work as an effective media which unites the people and enhances their horizons.
Detailing about the events included in the presentation, he said that Lai - Haraoba dance, martial arts of Manipur, Pung Cholam, tribal folk dances and Rash Leela will be the events held at the three above specified venues.
Sudhir P Ghate, chairman of Magnum Intergraphiks Private Limited also spoke on the occasion.
