Kasargod: Magistrate Unnikrishnan suicide - police intensify investigation

Kasargod, Nov 13: With reference to suicide committed by first class magistrate from the town, V K Unnikrishnan, relating to incidents which happened during his visit to Sullia in Karnataka, police personnel from Vidyanagar station here have intensified investigation.

Unnikrishnan had complained that he had undergone rough treatment at the hands of an auto rickshaw driver and policemen at Sullia after he objected to charging of exorbitant auto fare. The magistrate was returning after visiting centre of pilgrimage, Subrahmanya in Sullia taluk. After Sullia police registered two cases against Unnikrishnan, duly accusing him of having been drunk at the time, he was suspended from service.

During the inquest, doctors have reportedly mentioned about 15 injury marks found on Unnikrishnan's body. In the backdrop of this finding, a case stands filed against the sub-inspector and police constable of Sullia police station, even though their names have not been mentioned. In all likelihood, the on-duty sub-inspector of Sullia and constable will be named after the probe. Police sources in the meanwhile, said that they are a awaiting receipt of the postmortem report.
