M'lore Workshop on Physics and Chemistry of Materials Inaugurated

Mangalore, Jan 12:
A workshop on 'Physics and Chemistry of Materials' was inaugurated at the Old Senate hall of the University here on Friday January 11.  

Delivering the keynote inaugural address at the workshop, Dr Manjunath Pattabhi, professor and chairman, materials science department elucidated "Today's technological advancements in every sphere are mainly because of developments in materials science."  

Mangalore University is one of the few universities in India appreciating the significance of materials science, thereby starting a full-fledged MSc course in materials science way back in the year 1988.  

From then onwards, the material science department has guided and trained students, who as a result are currently placed in premier research institutions across the world and are contributing their mite to the development of material science. 

Within the country, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) is leading the way and is highly active in various advanced topics, with material science being one of them.   

Another speaker at the workshop, Prof Kulkarni of JNCASR, Bangalore in his inaugural speech enumerated the importance of materials and its evolution through the past several decades.
