Bengaluru, Jan 5: The Karnataka Tourism Department and JSW Bengaluru Football Club Private Ltd (BFC) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday for promoting Bengaluru as a footballing and tourist destination in the country and across the globe.

After signing an agreement, Minister of State for Tourism Priyank Kharge said the department envisaged that football can be the key driver for developing Bengaluru as a famous sports tourist destination on the same lines as Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester and Munich, which are homes to several renowned football club teams.

BFC has a mission to place India on the footballing world map. The tourism department along with BFC will promote the City as a sports destination targeting the youth and sports loving population.

Kharge said the MoU has been signed for a six-month season on a pilot basis and would be extended later.

BFC takes part in the international league as well as the Asian Football Club championship.

Parth Jindal, CEO, BFC said: ``This association between BFC and KarnatakaTourism Department is one that we are very excited about. We take great pride in the fact that we represent Karnataka and Bengaluru at the national and continental levels. We have always been brand ambassador for the State and the city and to formalize the fact by way of a partnership is delightful.’’

JSW and BFC will do everything to make Bengaluru a football destination that will become the envy of the rest of the country, the CEO said.

Sunil Chhetri, captain of BFC and the Indian national team, also spoke and appreciated the tie-up.
