Bantwal, Mar 7: In a tragic incident reported from Punchame village near Polali, about 12 km from Bantwal, 78-year-old Tanku Shetty was accidentally murdered by his own son Balakrishna Shetty (33), who stays with his mother Kusumavathi and deceased father Tanku Shetty. His wife was at her native town when the incident took place.

According to sources, there was a quarrel between father and son on a family affair. Following a heated argument and verbal abuse, the son angrily shoved his father who died on the spot, though his external injury was minor.

The scared mother of Balakrishna Shetty could not react as she too expected the same action from her son.

Balakrishna Shetty, filled with fear and anxiety, tried to hide the incident and put his father's body on the bed, in an attempt to make it appear as if he was sleeping. Early next morning he went to the nearby forest to collect wood so as to perform the funeral rites of his father.

But he was too late. By the time he was back from the forest, the police had already got the news and come to arrest him at his house. A neighbour is said to have tipped-off former superintendent of police Dayananda, who is currently serving in Kolar. Dayananda immediately alerted the Bantwal police who arrived on the spot.

A case has been filed against Balakrishna Shetty by the Bantwal police in this regard.
