Bangalore, Mar 8: In a fairly low key affair, M S Prakash, former Janata Dal-Secular leader and home minister of Karnataka, walked into the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee office in Bengaluru and filled up a primary membership form to formally join the party.

His membership form was endorsed by the state Congress chief Mallikarjuna Kharge, who formally inducted him into the party on Saturday.

There were no festivities to celebrate the event as was expected. However, the Congress said Prakash, along with his ten of his supporters, will be welcomed into the party on March 16 in the presence of senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chauvan. The Congress plans to kick-start the Janandolan rally across the state on the same day.

Prakash quit the JD-S after certain differences were reported between him and party chief H D Deve Gowda. Immediately after quitting the party, he sent feelers to the Bharatiya Janata Party and it was almost certain that he would join saffron party. However differences in principles cropped up, following which he decided to join the Congress.

There has been a considerable amount of delay in Prakash joining the party ever since he made his intentions clear. Sources said issues pertaining to allocation of tickets to contest polls had arisen and hence these differences had to be sorted out.

Prakash had sought tickets for all his supporters. However the Congress had said that tickets would be handed out only to candidates who they were sure would win.

After joining the party formally, Prakash said that he had thought about the matter considerably before he went ahead.
He also said that there were absolutely no conditions laid down by him before joining the party. "My ideas and principles are in conformity with the Congress party," he said.

Just like Jayaprakash Hegde , M.P.Prakash too is a fine gentleman politician with strong secular leanings and his induction into the Congress is indeed a welcome development and his joining the party at this crucial juncture will be a great asset.Good Luck to Mr.M.P.Prakash and his followers .

Reminds me of a great Kannada Movie I saw decades back “Jenu Goodu”…after all the saying goes “Where there is Honey There goes the Bee”. I am sure this great politician has made a very good study of the state political “beat” and must have sensed and realized that there is indeed a simmering massive wave in favour of the Congress. The only sad thing with the Congress of Karnataka is that it does not have any political leader like Barak Obama who can “rouse” the people with their speeches. Years back I heard Oscar Fernandes’s speech in a rally and I felt here was a great leader who could speak indeed like Hitler.

Unfortunately apart from seeing him in many photographs, I am just not sure of what he has ever done for the people of his constituency who voted for him and for the community and the state.. I would really look forward to see great Melita Pinto one day taking up the leadership of our great party…..I am sure this hardworking young lady has in her the qualities and potentials and of course charming looks to lead the community and the people, the party and perhaps if God willing…..the country…!!! God Bless you Melita…and God Bless your great parents and God Bless of course Daijiworld who have groomed her up!!!!

What’s new? It didn’t surprise me. This kind of matter happens often. “Love Thy Chair” has long been the motto of politicians in India. No wonder that a pure secularist can join in any extremist party for the sake power, his ideology is not an obstacle.
