Bangalore: M Leelavathi, Rukmini Krishnaswamy ‘Lioness Women of the Year 2008’

Bangalore, Mar 10: The International Association of Lions Clubs, Dist 324 D6, The Lioness Council celebrated the day of women – “Internation Women’s Day” on Saturday 8 March at 4.30 pm at MEWS Hall, Malleswaram here.
District governor, Dist 324 D6 Ln P S Venkatachalam was the chief guest. The programme was conducted under the leadership of Lns Manikya Sridhar, associate chairperson and D C Lns Clubs Ln Srinivasan.
The programme began with a melodious invocation by Indira and Manjula followed by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries, welcome speech by Manikya and report by council secretary Champaka. In her report, Lns Champaka stated that Dist 324 D6 is blessed with 17 Lions clubs with over 400 Lionesses doing great service like, blood donation camps, IOL camps, positive mental health, drug awareness, AIDS awareness, service to old age homes, service to physically-challenged, health check up and dental camps in schools. The total service has crossed Rs 20 lac, thanks to all the Lionesses.
Ln Venkatachalam in his inaugural address remarked and appreciated the Lionesses' unceasing service to mankind. He commended the ladies on the dais and the guests of honour for being role models and inspiring others to do great works.
The Lioness council recognized and appreciated Rukmini Krishnaswamy, director, Spastic Society of Karnataka, M C Pankaja, chief coordinator, Prasanna Counselling Centre, Janaki Iyengar, chairman, Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Trust, M Leelavathi and Harini Rao, both cine artistes, and Pooja Alva, a renowned swimmer. All were recognized as ‘Lioness Women of the Year 2008’ and honored with a shawl and citation. At this juncture, all associate chairpersons were also awarded. Actor Vinod Raj graced the occasion.
Lns Chandrika compered the programme while Lns Girijashree, council treasurer proposed the vote of thanks.
