Operation Clean Money: Govt launches website to expose tax offenders

Mumbai, May 16 (Deccan Chronicle): The government has put its drive against black money hoarders and tax evaders on fast-track and launched a website to put online names of offenders, number of raids conducted, according to a report on NDTV.

Details of raids by income tax department will be put up on the website and government will rate defaulters from high to low risk. As part of its drive against black money, tax evasion and counterfeiting of Indian currency notes, the government started demonetisation drive on November 8 last year.

The notes recall decision sucked out over 86 per cent currency in circulation from the banking system and caused sever cash crunch in country as old Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes were withdrawn overnight.

The website created by the Central Board of Direct Taxes will also reveal names of bank customers who deposited 'disproportionate' money into bank accounts during the 50-day long drive against black money.

"We want to change habit from non-tax compliant to tax compliant," NDTV quoted Sushil Chandra, chairman of CBDT as saying.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley inaugurated the portal dedicated to tax defaulters. "Post-demonetisation personal income tax return filing has gone up due to ownership of unanimous money being identified," Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said.

Jaitley went on to say that it was no longer safe to deal with excessive cash, tax evaded money. After the launch of the website, both taxpayers and tax authorities could easily communicate with each other through customers' permanent account number or PAN details.

"The department is looking to keep the process as non-intrusive as possible with an emphasis on e-assessment to keep human interaction to the minimum," a report in The Economic Times had earlier said.

Yet one more effort to fool public. They promised to bring all black money from Swiss Bank within 100 days which they failed miserably. Now, shamelessly they want to put black money hoarders name on website. What will we gain by knowing the names ? We already know the names of most of the black money hoarders, both from BJP and Congress. Do we, the public have any power to punish these looters ? It is like showing delicious food to a starving person without allowing him to touch it. What a cunning way to fool the public. It is very very unfortunate that the bhakts have become so blind that they have lost their thinking power as well.

    Dear Rajesh, Mangalore

You are blindly following the cow government in frustration, jealousy and enmity towards the graceful congress.

Have you not heard the money from RBI directly gone to black money holders like Adani Ambani Tata Birla and BJP big shots. Be blind no problem.

Its Government's job to go after tax offenders, public by knowing the names gains nothing.

What the masses want to know is the names of Black Money hoarders, whom BJP promised to expose. the money the government said, belongs to people !

    Please fulfill your promise !

Tax evasion means indirectly stealing public money that belongs to you and me. Public want to know who are those thieves -- just like police publishing the picture of petty thieves in the media.
Public can keep a eye on those tax thieves and report to concerned authorities, if there is any tax evasion in the future.

    NN,

There are many ways we the citizens steal taxes. Haven't you ever availed a loan in order to save yourself from getting taxes on your salary ? Haven't you at any time refrain from taking an invoice/bill/voucher because tax is required to mention in it and you are the paying party ? Bet is not required, there will be not one saint in the entire nation who did not evade tax.

Bigger evaders are those who stashed black money abroad and we common people are in no position to bring them to book. But, BJP promised this to the masses during their election rally in 2014. A promise broken, displays what a cheat a person/party is.
