Mangalore, Jun 8: IIPP Centre, Valencia had organised a guest lecture by distinguished entrepreneur Barkur Dharmaraj Shetty, who runs successful industry at Mumbai and a resorts and auditorium venture in Dharmavar, his native place in Udupi district, at Valencia. Shetty, who has been a member of various institutes and societies, has also been the recipient of various awards for his skills and achievements.
After Anita Cordeiro introduced the speaker, Shetty delivered a lecture spanning over 30 minutes, during which the audience stayed glued to their seats and heard what he said, in rapt attention.
Shetty painted a rosy picture for the country considering it's recent upsurge, after a lull of over two centuries. His vast business experience and knowledge earned through global travel, were evident in the way he compared the current economic situation in other countries vis-a-vis in India. He stressed that our country has everything in it's possession, but the people with their sheer will power and hard work alone, can make use of the opportunities and things available and make things happen.
He regretted the fact that richly available talent, intelligence and high productivity in the twin districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada have not paved way for their development to the extent expected of them. Vested interests seem to be blocking the economic progress of these districts, he felt. Laying further stress on the need for the people to become more assertive, he gave the example of the people of his home town who could ensure that the Mumbai bound trains halt at Barkur, with their determination and assertion. In a brief power point presentation laced with quotes and thoughts, he explained the importance of communication skills and the attitude of the people for success of any venture. He explained the new projects his group is undertaking to encourage local talent and generate new employment opportunities in Udupi district.
After he addressed the queries raised by the audience, a small souvenir was presented to him on behalf of the IIPP and it's mentor, Max Rasquinha.
