Mangalore, Jun 11: Starting this academic year, St Aloysius College (autonomous), will start six new post-graduate courses. These include MS in mass communication, MA in applied economics, MCom in applied finance and accounting, MSc in biochemistry, MSc counseling and holistic psychology, and MA in English, stated a press release.
Keeping in mind the fast-changing educational requirements, ever-increasing student demand for quality and practically-oriented education, and also the job-market scenario, the College has decided to offer these courses to address the felt-needs of the student community. This will help in equipping students academically and practically and train them better for the industry.
For this purpose, the College has already set up well-equipped laboratories and studios, community radio station, libraries, and related infrastructure, besides preparing well-qualified staff for this purpose, and setting its course objectives clear.
The details of the six new masters courses to be started this academic year are:
MS Communication
This course will offer three specializations in broadcast media, corporate communication, and print and new media.
Objectives of the course
To impart theoretically sound and practically oriented education in mass communication
To help students integrate their learning with adequate practical knowledge
To train students in all streams of media with practical learning
To encourage students’ abilities in media in creative ways
MA in Applied Economics
Objectives of the course
To equip students with knowledge of principles, theories and concepts of economics and business, which will help them become responsible leaders in their field
MCom in Applied Finance and Accounting
Objectives of the course
To provide theoretical and practical knowledge in accounting and finance
To provide an exposure to the practical business world through industry-institution interaction
MSc in Biochemistry
Objectives of the course
To provide state-of-the-art knowledge and skills in the field of Biochemistry
To generate manpower trained in Biochemistry suited to meet the needs of the industry and academia
To train students pursue committed research in the field
To have a positive impact on human and animal health, agriculture and environment in the region
MA in English
Objectives of the course
To impart quality input on English Literature taking into consideration the recent developments and thrust areas in the field
To equip students with competence in linguistic performance by focusing on skill acquisition through peer teaching –learning, tutorials, practicals and soft skills
To train students in the techniques of documentation and publication by encouraging them to take up projects and publication works.
To train them in project writing
MSc in Holistic and Psychological Counseling
Objectives of the Course
To help people cope better with day to day problems like anxiety, stress, frustrations, conflicts, psychosomatic illness, strained interpersonal relationships, marital problems, school related problems, problems at work place, etc
Besides these six courses, the college also has other seven post graduate courses. They are MSc in analytical chemistry, MSc in biotechnology, MSW, MSc in software technology, MSc in bioinformatics, MCA and MBA. While students can secure admissions to these courses through entrance tests, new courses have a direct admission provision, the release stated.
