Mangaluru: Fitness week concludes at Lourdes Central School

Mangaluru, Nov 11: ‘Train like an athlete, eat like a dietician, sleep like a baby, win like a champion’; the fitness week was observed from October 27to November 10 at Lourdes Central School Mangaluru. It was inaugurated by Fr Robert D’souza by throwing a Frisbee.

Class VI performed aerobic exercises and an assembly was conducted by the students of class V D.

The sports fitness finale began by invoking God’s blessings. The chief guest of the day was Valentina Rodrigues, advocate the president of the function, Fr Wilson L Vitus D’Souza, manager, LCS, principal, Fr Robert D’Souza, vice-principal, Belita Mascarenhas, Fr Rohan Lobo, asst. parish priest, Bejai were the dignitaries present on the dais.

The highlight of the Sports Day was the assortment of drills and colourful display performed by the students of Kindergarten to Class V, which portrayed their talents and team spirit.

All the primary students from KG to class V had a fun-filled week. It gave them a chance to showcase their sportsmanship and athletic abilities. There was a lot of excitement when the physical instructors made important announcements on the L C S grounds regarding the class games like running race, ball throw, bombing the city, balancing the book, picking up the dumbbell and saving the balloon. The winners were awarded with medals and certificates.

Chief guest, in her address mentioned all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Along with education sports also should be given equal importance. She said sport is an integral part of our life. It helps us to achieve a common goal. She named some sports personalities and said among the Lourdites some have these gifts and talents. She appreciated the participants and congratulated the winners.

President of the day Fr Wilson L Vitus D’Souza, manager, in his presidential address recommended the need for sports in their life and asked the students to take part in sports which is necessary for maintaining a healthy body and mind. He also appreciated and congratulated the students for their amazing performance.

Anitha Pinto, the physical instructor read out the achievements of various tournaments held during the year.

AICS Junior Badminton tournament was organized on August 5. The under – 14 boys were declared runner up and girls the winners.

In AICS senior Badminton tournament, LCS boys won the championship and were declared as winners.

In the Independence Day Football tournament, LCS boys were the winners.

Under –17 boys had won the AICS Basket ball tournament which was held at Little Rock Brahmavar, Udupi.

Shiyana S Mallya, school chess champion was honored by the Rajyostava Puraskar. She was awarded Rs 10,000 cash prize and certificate. At a young age, she has won numerous prizes in chess national and international level. She was honoured on the sports finale.

The programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Aditi of class IV. Charvi, Aadarsh, Sinchana, Ishaal Tonse, Aryan, Lauren, Nandan, Megha, Minaal, Sancia, Jahanvi, Nishal, Gaurav compered the programme beautifully.
