Manila, Nov 13 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked Indians to work hard to ensure that the 21st Century belongs to India and said his government was making every effort to transform the country and take it to new heights.
Addressing the Indian diaspora in the Philippines capital, Modi said difficulties might be there but once it's crossed no one can stop India from achieving new heights.
"Our efforts are aimed at transforming India and ensuring everything in our nation matches global standards," Modi said in his nearly 35-minute speech.
Noting that 21st Century is described as Asia's Century, Modi told the cheering audience that it was duty of every Indian to work hard to make it a century of India.
"I say it is possible," Modi asserted.
The Prime Minister said India has always contributed to the world peace and more than 1.25 lakh Indian soldiers sacrificed their lives just for peace during the two world wars.
"Our contingent in the UN Peacekeeping Forces is among the biggest. India is the land of Mahatma Gandhi, peace is integral to our culture," he said, highlighting India's contribution to the world peace.
Modi also lauded his government's initiatives such as 'Swachh Bharat', 'Jan Dhan Yojna' and 'Ujjwala Yojana'.
"Which Indian doesn't want cleanliness? We have started from where Mahatma Gandhi left and till now over 2.25 lakh villages in India have become open defecation free," he said.
Stating that getting a LPG connection once used to be a big achievement, Modi said his government has provided free LPG connections to more than 3.5 crore families in over three years.
He also attacked the Opposition and said that before 2014 people used to ask how much money has gone to scams but now they ask how much has come.
Modi arrived here yesterday on a three-day visit to attend the ASEAN-India and the East Asia summits.

Tue, Nov 14 2017We Indians are known as Bombayah in Philippines. Sardars or Punjabi Singhs rule illegal money lending business and they give Pesos 5000 and take Pesos 6000. (because of that all Indians are called 5-6 five - six) Philippines girls are friendly, harmless and non - arrogant and also known as good faithful housewives. More than 1000 Mangaloreans married Filipinas and nearly 50 Filipinas settled in Mangalore after marriage!

Tue, Nov 14 2017When hardtime is enforced, we the people of India are forced to work hard even without Bashanbaazi of those hardly working.
Those working hard won't even get 10 % benefit out of their business. But, government will get easily 12% 18% 28% and unlimited on fuel without much efforts. Check the salaries taken by people's representatives. Of course tax free.

Having connected with PH, I fully agree with you.
Yes, Indians are big time business people, but at the same time, Indians are known for their unscrupulous (illegal) money lending business, for which Prez Duterte has warned the Indian community.
My guess is more foreigners like to retire in PH than in India, cos of the natural beauty, quality of life, friendly people and peace found in that country.
Many Indian students are acquiring quality education in PH.
I quote below a news report from ABS CBN-PH published on July 13, 2017 that will make every Indian proud of a young PH educated doctor.
"VIGAN CITY - Nirav Prajapati, a Doctor of Medicine graduate of the University of Northern Philippines in 2013, topped the June 2017 Medical Council of India Board Examination.
He scored a total of 239 out of 300 items, leading more than four thousand examinees.
"Actually to tell you the truth, I had no idea that my score will be this high because I was hoping to score good not to top but with the grace of God and my family, they helped me through," Prajapati said.
He thanked the university for providing him quality medical education, as well as training, which he said would be helpful in providing quality healthcare to his countrymen.
“I will definitely help the community," he said.
Prajapati is the second UNP graduate who ranked first in the MCI Board Examination. In 2013, another UNP graduate topped the medical board examination.
The dean of the UNP College of Medicine, Dr. Pablo Quedado, said the university has been attracting foreign students.
Last academic year, more than 400 Indian students were enrolled at the College of Medicine while more than 300 Indian students were taking up pre-medicine courses.
Unqote
Filipino travelers are accorded Visa on arrival status by Indian govt., while Indians are yet to get the same status in PH.
Current Prez is genuinely fighting against crimes related to drug abuse, corruption, red tape etc.

Mon, Nov 13 2017I know Philippines is a small and poor country, but so many Indians working there is a surprise to me. However, we do not find any Filipino or Filipina here, working in India. In a Miss World contest, I watched on TV, that country's contestant was asked how many islands are there in Philippines. She asked him during high tide or low tide, which probably the questioner himself was unaware. She said during low tide 7107 and some other lower figure during high tide, which I don't remember.

Mon, Nov 13 2017My opinion Modi did not required to visit foreign tour for business dealings (conference okay ). His duty make law & order proper, Roads, Railway, Sea port, Airport connectivity good standard, provide 24x7 electricity water & communication system. provide single window for clearing of documents. That time investors come automatically. No need drama we have huge qualified manpower & natural resources . Keep your home in order automatically people follow & comes to swatch Bharath it is started by last PM constructing toilets but unfortunately BJP trying to get credit

Mon, Nov 13 2017Working hard is necessary but before that it's important to have a clear fool proof strategy.
Efforts going waste is sheer national waste, waste of man hours and more than that loss of enthusiasm.
We can't make any progress by wasting precious time, which is valued far more than money.
