Bantwal, Jul 26: A leopard was accidentally caught in a trap meant for wild boars, in the forest land owned by Vasudev Gowda, at Talithottu, near Vagga, in Kavalapadoor village, here on Thursday, July 24.

Gowda had successfully trapped a wild boar last Saturday night, which inspired him to try his luck again this week. However, when he reached the spot on Friday, July 25, early in the morning, he was surprised to find an uninvited guest trapped in the net.

The locals gathered at the spot while someone conveyed the news to the forest department in Mangalore range. The foresters, including conservators, arrived at the spot with a cage and managed to transfer the leopard from the trap to the cage.  The leopard was then driven to the wild life sanctuary at Pilikula.

Jerry Moras, does my present place of abode inform you of my place of birth ? Well, I am a daughter of a farmer which may be enough to tell you that I may not be totally depending on Kadri Market for my consumables.

This also may inform you that I am very much familiar with wild pigs devouring our farm produce but I am not as cruel as trapping them and feasting out of their flesh. I am still for protecting common wild animals so that they being animated creatures (like dinosaurs) to our children will go much longer than next decade. And, as per the law whoever kills them is punishable.

Lydia, I think you won't have wild pigs, wild boar or any other animals. I think you seem to be writing out of your mind. Be practical. I appreciate your high regards to wild life, environment and love for nature. But you lack village life experience as your comments for Gowda is too offensive as he saved life of human beings and Gowda has been helpful. Please note trapping wild animals is need required as crop is distroyed. If villages are not protected from crops you won't get any vegetables in Kadri market.

I used to enjoy hunting when i was young, but right now i feel pity for the animals and our environment. We should all try to keep a Ecological balance. Mangalore is such a Ausome place with all greenaries, Hills and trees.I fear this natural habitat will lose its charm.

Is the Wild animal protection law different for Karnataka and Bihar ? In Bihar, a man was sent to jail for housing an abandoned bear cub thus making his 6 year-old daughter orphan. Why not Vasudev Gowda be punished for already trapping one wild boar earlier and now the leopard ?

If the wild boar was trapped as planned, what would Gowda have done with it ? Cook and eat it ? Does the law not apply to Gowda ? Why no mention of punishment to him for trapping wild animals ? What other animals does he trap ? Rabbits/Foxes for thier fur ? And wild elephants ? We human beings are the reason for several species of animals to be extinct today. I wonder how many more Veerappans are there under different names, one of them being Vasudev Gowda !

Taking a wild animal caught to the Plikula and keeping it there for a straying animal for food, is unwise. Born and brought in wild it will be imprisoning the animal not accustomed to this type of habitat and is unwise. Cannot be the wild animal be released in similar Reserve Forest or Wild life sanctuary
