Bantwal:  Assault on Mable Veigas - Now Women Organizations Stage Dharna

Daijiworld Media Network - Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Jul 29: Condemning the police inaction in arresting the culprits who assaulted Mable Veigas, her husband and son from Atikarbail in Vittal Mudnoor village a few days back and to record their resentment against relentless atrocities being committed against women, various women's organizations staged a massive protest in front of Vittal police station on Monday July 28.

More than 150 women, who joined together under the banner of Dakshina Kannada District Samarpana Mahila Seva Samsthe, raised slogans against the police and sat in dharna for over 90 minutes in front of the police station.

Puttur assistant superintendent of police Abhishek Goel and Bantwal police circle inspector Belliappa arrived on the spot. The leaders of the protesting women handed over a memorandum to them.

The policemen have said that two out of the eight accused, namely Vithal Poojary and Anil Shetty from Vittal Mudnoor village, have already been arrested. They promised to make all out efforts to nab the other six persons. Additional policemen were posted at the place for maintaining order.

The two arrested were produced in the court where they were remanded to judicial custody. It may be recalled that a gang of about 50 people had attacked the house of Mable Veigas about 10 days back at midnight and assaulted the family members, injuring Mable seriously, relating to a road dispute.

Is somebody listening? Who will listen to the cries of the people affected by the violence of the powerful people. This time it is Mable Viegas, a helpless homemaid tomorrow it may be one of our relatives. It is a shameful act which has proved that ‘Might is Right’. I request the authorities to look in the matter and see that the people responsible be punished. Justice will be done only when the culprits are arrested and safety be given to the family of Mrs. Mable.

This incident clearly shows and underestimates the functioning of the present government and the security of the minority community is under question in the future. If the persons concerned don’t take action today it will never happen in the future, it’s very disgusting and shame on the attackers by attacking an innocent family and that too on a woman!

The event which took place at Bantwal on Jul 24 i.e. a mob of 50 people attacked on a Christian lady namely Mable Viegas & Fly. It was disgusting event in Mangalore . It questions the Secular life in India. Yes, it really threatens the life of minority Christians in India.

I want ask the one who involve in violent activity, Are they not your Brothers & Sisters? What type of society are you creating in the future? You have become the case to increase the gape between the Religions in India. I hope the respective authorities will maintain Peace & Justice by taking necessary measures on concerned people who are involved in this evil activities .

Strict action needs to be taken against these culpritsJustice should prevail No political outfit or indivisual is above the law and the Karnataka Police needs to prove this. Friends if we turn a blind eye to this event thinking that it happened to one Mable then tomorrow it might become difficuilt to let our wives & daughters step out irrespective of who we are..

A strong message must be sent out to people who take law in their own hands. Common people lets show some maturity and unity in this matter. We live in a democratic nation.

Dear SP saab and Dear Circle Inspector! Why it is taking so long to arrest culprits? Do you have any political pressure please open you mouth to media/public so that Haam public can help you to solve your problem otherwise it is very shameless act on your part because out of 50 you are able arrest only 2 people! that also after 10 days. What you have to do tomorrow do it today & what you have to do today do it right now! after all you have to get justice done!
