Mangaluru, May 25: The lucky coupons draw of Lenten Campaign 2018 of Mangaluru diocese was conducted at CODP, ISD in the presence of Fr Walter D’Mello, judicial vicar of Mangaluru diocese, on May 25. Fr Oswald Monteiro, director, CODP; staff of CODP and ISD, and participants of the ensuing education aid distribution programme were also present.
Fr Oswald Monteiro welcomed Fr Walter D’Mello and all those present for the draw. He then briefed the gathering about the various developmental activities carried out by CODP for the upliftment of the marginalized people.
He further explained that every year CODP, on behalf of Mangaluru diocese, earmarks Lenten Campaign collection for a particular purpose. Due to the increasing requests for financial assistance towards repair of houses, this year’s Lenten collection is set aside ‘in aid of repair of houses of the poor/needy families’, he said.
Thereafter, the draw was held.

The chief guest Fr Walter D’Mello then distributed scholarship aid to beneficiaries present. In his speech he said that every student should have the urge or desire to keep studying. There is no age bar to study. Quoting the example of India’s former President APJ Abdul Kalam and narrating his own personal experience in availing education even after attaining middle age, he asked parents to encourage their children to study so that it keeps them away from dangers prevailing all around.
The aid distribution programme was followed by a talk on ‘Awareness about various government schemes for minorities and how to avail them’ by Shanthi D’Souza, project co-ordinator, CODP. The programme was compered by Veena D’Souza and concluded with vote of thanks by Zeena Concessao.
