Speaking to Daijiworld, C R Shetty Convenor of UAE Tulu Koota said that “Tulu Koota helps in increasing the visibility and desirability of Tulu language and culture. It promotes unity among various communities of Tulunad by breaking down barriers, building trust, strengthening relationships and opening horizons. We remain resolute in our effort to build respect and increase understanding by stimulating the Tulu culture among the Tulu communities'.
He also emphasized that today, when our children are growing in foreign land, they get exposed with intercultural and cross cultural communication. Intercultural and cross cultural communication is good for personal development he insisted. However, It is important to indebt our Tulu language and culture to counter an exposure which can make our Tulu language and culture naive to the next generation. This was one of the basic motives and objectives of forming Tulu Koota UAE in 1990.
Tulu Koota has been hosting various events like dramas and musical events over the last 18 years and continues to support all groups and communities that wish to promote an event in Tulu. Tulu Parba (festival) has been a very big success over the years with all community groups from Tulunad joining in the celebration. This year's Tulu Parba will be even bigger with many stalls for various games at the venue and all communities from Tulunad living in UAE shall exhibit values and culture of Tulunad.

A meeting of various Tulu communities met recently at Winny's Restaurant in Dubai to discuss the plan for the event. The timing of the Parba will be from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM on 5th Dec (Friday) and all communities from Tulunad can showcase cultural shows.
Sarvotham Shetty & Kushal Shetty briefed the program of Tulu Parbha 2008, and emphasised Tulu language to be the main agenda during the day to promote Tulu and hence all events will be exclusively in Tulu. Denzil Fernandes and Suchit Kumar spoke about the stalls, tableaus and games. Daya Kirodian Treasurer of Tulu Koota handed over the budget for the function.
The committee unanimously concluded that it is the collective opinion of everyone to look beyond community affiliation and build unity for the perseverance of Tulu language and culture. The elders of the committee felt that it is time for the younger generation to come forward and take over the responsibility of promoting Tulu culture. They requested the young gathering to become their own spokesperson for Tulu and believe in the impact of their words and deeds. It was agreed that if we remain silent, the decline of Tulu will be gradual and imperceptible until one day we look into the mirror and see an unfamiliar and hideous reflection of ourselves.
The committee has extended an invitation to all communities of Tulunad living in UAE to join in this celebration in promoting the tradition of Tulunad and make the occasion colorful and memorable.
One of the highlights of the day will be the performances by the Tulu expatriates of UAE exclusively in Tulu and those interested in presenting any interesting episodes are requested to contact the committee at the earliest. Even those interested in organising the games at the various stalls should indicate their desire quickly since there are limited stalls. There will also be the most popular tableau presentation by various groups. The first eight groups to confirm will be accepted for the tableau parade.
More exciting plans are on the programme to give the entire event a truly Tulu familiarity and the expatriate Tulu speaking families and bachelors are assured of a grand time.
Some of the other members who attended the meeting were Krishnaraj Tantri, Sudhakar Thumbay, Ganesh Rai, Jayanand Kunder, Sujay Bendore, Oswald, Lawrence Nasarath, Satish Shetty, Satish Venkaraman, Narayan Kunder, Kashif, Shamsu and Vaman Poojary. Also a host of new members had attended the meeting showing a very positive future for Tulu in UAE.
Krishnaraj Tantri proposed the vote of thanks and announced the next meeting of UAE Tulu Koota Dubai scheduled for 17th October 2008 (Friday) at Winny's Restaurant, Dubai at 10:00 am and requested all members to attend with family.
