Mangalore, Nov 24: Prizes were distributed to winners of ‘Kala Sangam-2008’, a cultural and fine arts event organized by Mangalore Musical and Cultural Association (MMCA), which concluded on Saturday November 22, at ‘Gitanjali’, Lower Bendoor.

According to the organizers, the event is an opportunity for the young and the old to nurture and exhibit their talents in cultural and fine arts events. There was an array of competitions in various categories like kindergarten, lower primary, primary, higher primary, high school, intermediate, collegiate, teaching and non-teaching, bankers, employees of all other sectors, professionals, housewives, and senior citizens.

The competitions were held in events like drawing, painting, handwriting, essay writing, flower arrangement, science model, musical instrument and model, mehendi, salad dressing, cultural variety, fancy dress, patriotic song, filmy vocal and western vocal, Bharatnatyam solo, folk dance group, quiz, elocution, instrumental solo, group and solo dance and ‘Mad Ads’. There was also a competition for the most talented school pupil leader/ student president.

Winners:

Special Trophies: Painting- Padmashree, P V Carmel English School; Flower Arrangement- Runa, St Agnes High School; Best Dancer-Varsha Kamath, St Mary’s English Higher Primary School; Mehendi- Rumana, Sri Ramakrishna School, MC for Kala Sangam-Vineetha.

Special prizes: Dance-Jnana Aithal; Electronic Keyboard-Dragon style-Noel P Bangera; Piano Style- Tamara Mehta; Kindergarten Rolling Trophy - St Agnes English Preparatory School; I Runners-up- Lady Hill English Medium Preparatory School; II Runners-up -Mount Carmel Preparatory School.

Primary School: Rolling Trophy- Lourdes Central School; I Runners-up-The Yenepoya
Lower Primary School; Rolling Trophy- Lourdes Central School; I Runners-up- Canara English Medium School; II Runners-up- The Yenepoya School.

Higher Primary Category: Rolling Trophy- St Agnes English Medium School; I Runners-up- Lourdes Central School; II Runners-up- Sacred Hearts English Medium School.

Kannada Medium High School: Rolling Trophy- St Agnes; I Runners-up- Pompei School; II Runners-up- St Aloysius School.

English Medium High School: Rolling Trophy- St Agnes Girls’ School; I Runners-up- St Aloysius; II Runners-up- Lourdes Central School.

PUC: Rolling Trophy- St Aloysius College, I Runner up- St Ann's College, II Runner up- St Agnes College.

Teaching/non teaching: Rolling Trophy- Dr MV Shetty Institute of Health Sciences.
