Mangalore: Full-fledged 'Kalaangann' to be Dedicated to Konkani World on Nov 30

Mangalore, Nov 24: The much-anticipated dedication ceremony of Mandd Sobhann's dream project 'Kalaangann', the Konkani heritage centre, will be held at Shaktinagar on Sunday November 30. 'Samarpan', the dedication ceremony of the project will be held on Sunday evening in the presence of the august gathering.
Addressing the media persons here on Monday November 24, Eric Ozario, gurkar of Mandd Sobhann said that Kalaangann, the dream project of the organization is complete and will be dedicated to the art world in general and Konkani community in particular by veteran ace film director Shyam Benegal. "It is the only one-of-its-kind project anywhere in the world. It houses an amphitheatre; air conditioned hall, museum, library, school of arts, terrace theatre, research centre, hostel, cafeteria, open stage and grounds, “he added.
Tourism and Infrastructure development minister G Janardhan Reddy will be the chief guest, while Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangalore, district-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, philathropist and well-known entrepreneur Ronald Colaco, who also is the prime donor of the entire project, will be the special guests, he added.
Kalangann has been a centre of hectic Konkani cultural activities for the last seven ever-since it was inaugurated by Naseeruddin Shah on December 2, 2001. As many as 83 monthly theatre programmes, number of cultural camps, music, dance, theatre and folk workshops, training programmes, research and study of Konkani culture are just a few of the many activities with which Kalaangann is abuzz, Ozario said.
Louis J Pinto, president, Mandd Sobhann, Rony Crasta, secretary, Stany Alvares, coordinator, Titus Noronha, PRO were present at the press conference.
