Karkala, Nov 28: "Eversince liberization and globalization have taken centre stage, language and culture have suffered and have taken back seat. But amidst this gloom, it is very satisfactory to see that programmes such as Alva's Nudisiri are doing yeoman's job in preserving and promoting Kannada language. While leading media houses are still busy spreading hatred among sections of people, Nudisiri is a nation-building programme. I have never attended such a well-organized and hugely-attended programme anytime in my life," said renowned Kannada poet of 'Nitrotsava' fame K S Nisar Ahmed.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 'Alva's Nudisir-2008' on Ratnakaravarni stage in Vyasaraya Ballal auditorium at Sundari Anand Alva premises, Vidyagiri near Moodbidri here on Friday November 28 morning.
Nadoja Dr Chennavira Kanavi who presided over the function spoke at length on Kannada culture, Kannada mind and language. "Kannada mind for centuries together has understood every culture, tolerated every offence. Kannada is a standing example for a culture that has been the reason of fulfillment and achievement for centuries. Today we are in the 21st century. I have feelings of contentment when I see so many young writers and Kannada activists taking interest in promoting and preserving Kannada language. I have no doubt that we will hit the Golden Era of Kannada in these centuries owing to the immense contribution of senior Kannada activists, litterateurs in the past. It all now depends on how we understand our culture. Unlike civilization, there is no yardstick to understand culture," he added.
Kannada Sahitya Parishat Bangalore president Dr Nallur Prasad said that there will not be any changes in the way Kannada literary conference is conducted. There has been a suggestion from media and others to embrace changes in the Conference. But there will be no changes in the coming Conference which scheduled to be held in Chitradurga. Moreover, plans are afoot to hold a Yuva Sahitya Sammelan exclusively for youth at Dharwad. In this 98% of the participation will be by youth. The topic of the conference is "Challenges of Kannada in Modern Era,' he declared.
Earlier all the guests were escorted to the Ratnakaravarni stage on a traditional procession.
Dr Mohan Alva, his father Anand Alva, former minister Amarnath Shetty and Moodbidri MLA Abhayachandra Jain were also present on the dais.
