Doha: Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC) Wins Tulu Koota Kabaddi Tourney

Doha, Nov 28: Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC) Kabbadi team won the 1st Kabaddi tournament organized by Tulu Koota Qatar defeating United Kabaddi team by 8 points on Friday 28th November 2008. The tournament was officially inaugurated by the Tulu Koota President Ravi Shetty in the morning.
Preliminary matches were played as follows:
Karnataka Sangha Vs United Kabbadi, where United Kabbadi won by 6 points.
Advanced Technical Services (ATS) Vs Tulu Koota, where ATS won by 37 points.
Pallonji Qatar Vs Karanatak Sangha, where Karnataka Sangha won by 3 points.
Mangalore Cricket Club Vs Tulukoota, where MCC won by 23 points.
United Cricket Vs Palonji Qatar, where United Cricket won by 38 points.
Mangalore Cricket Club Vs Advanced Technical Services, where MCC won by 1 point.
After the break in the afternoon the Semi Finals were played as follows:
Mangalore Cricket Club Vs Karnataka Sangha, where MCC won by 18 points
Advanced Technical Services Vs United Kabbadi, where United Kabbai won by 6 points.
The final match of the tournament was played in the evening between MCC and ATS and hundreds of people gathered at the Indian Club grounds in Doha to witness the match. MCC was leading by 12 points in the first half of match and after a break of 5 minutes the second half of the match was won by MCC with a margin of 8 points.
The prize distribution ceremony was compered by Archana Shetty and the chief guest of the ceremony was Nilangshu Dey, the former president of ICBF and Mr. Bhullar Singh the President of Indian Club was the guest of honour along with Vamon Maroli the founder member and president of Tulukoota Qatar. The President Ravi Shetty thanked each and everyone for their support towards this tournament. A two minutes silence was observed during the ceremony in memory of those killed and injured during the Terrorists attacks in Mumbai. The Chief guest in his speech congratulated the club for organizing this tournament and promised support from the Qatar government to organize such sports events. The chief guest gave away the winners and the runners-up trophy. Muthu of United Kabbadi emerged as the best rider while Ramesh of ATS was awarded as the best catcher. Shabinash of MCC won the best all rounder title. Prizes were sponsored by Ganesh Srinivasan of Gulf Incon, finally the vote of thanks was proposed by Sudhir Kottian.
Anthony, Ajith, Fredy and Nixon were the official referees of the tournament. Milan Arun, Sathya Naryan Hedge and Abdul Salam were the official commentators of the tournament and every bit of action on and off the court was commented by the team in a unique style. Seethram Shetty, Raju and Kishore Shetty were at the scoreboard. Prakash Ajila, Prakash Rao and Manjunath co-ordinated the whole tournament.
