Doha: Children Welcome Santa Claus at MCC Christmas Event
Media Release
Doha, Dec 2: Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC), Qatar, a socio-cultural organization, achieved another milestone by organizing their first ever Children’s Christmas Party for its members. This celebration took place on Monday, December 1, 2008 in the Seraphic Hall, Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Qatar. The date was set during the first week of Advent as it coincided with the start of winter holidays for most schools and to accommodate the request of families who were traveling out of Qatar for the winter break.
Over one hundred children, in the age group of one to sixteen years attended this celebration. If a room full of smiling and happy children is any indication then this party will surely be deemed a huge success for the organizers. The Christmas tree, Crib, red colored balloons, Carols, children and volunteers dressed in red and wearing Santa caps set the right ambience for this Christmas celebration. The appearance of Santa Claus was the highlight of the evening for the children.
Dephny Lobo opened the evening with a prayer which was followed by a prayer song by Reena Castelino, Riana Pinto, Alwyn Dsouza, Lona Pinto and Della Rego. Elreena Pinto accompanied them on the keyboard.
The party was compeered by Della Rego. For the games the children were broadly divided into three age groups – 1 to 5, 6 to 10 and 11 to 16. Activities like coloring of Christmas scenes and story and poetry writing about Christmas enabled the children to use the creative streak in them. Rita Andrade beautifully delivered a Christmas message emphasizing the true meaning of Christmas. Music was provided by DJ Glylon. Two groups of children sang Christmas carols while Santa Claus danced and distributed candy to the tiny tots. Father Christmas also cut a huge Christmas cake to celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Joyce Alvares.
Kudos to the cultural team headed by Reena Castelino, and diligently supported by Lona Pinto, Denzil Britto, Deena Shingare, Edward Dsouza, Sujatha Fernandes, Ronald Rodrigues, Ronnie Fernandes and William Lobo for having done a magnificent job. They left no stone unturned in ensuring that children from all age groups were kept engaged and entertained. No event is possible without the generous support of well-wishers and sponsors. The organizing Committee of MCC would like to thank all the benefactors for their generosity and kindheartedness. MCC would also like to extend their gratitude to the parents who volunteered in many numerous ways.
May the spirit of Christmas fill our lives with peace, hope and joy.
