Mangalore: Doctors Remove Record 37.5 Kg Tumor at Unity Hospital

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (TU/CN)

Mangalore, Dec 3: A six-member team of doctors headed by Dr Jalaluddin Akbar,  successfully removed a record 37.5 kg tumor from the abdomen of a 45-year-old female patient at Unity Health Complex, recently.

Speaking to media persons at the Press Club on Wednesday December 3, Dr Akbar said, “Usually this type of tumor grows up to 15 to 20 kg and rarely goes beyond that size. The patient had a successful recovery and walked home after two weeks. The tumor was handed over to Dr Jayaprakash Shetty, pathologist, to study its biology.”

The challenging surgery done by Dr Thangam Varghese, Dr Suresh Bhat, Dr Rakesh Rai, Dr Suresh Rao, Dr Krishna Prasad, and Dr Syed Sirajuddin, lasted seven hours. He said that a report about the tumor, with a size of 40 x 47 cm, will be sent to one of the scientific journals. Then, they would decide on whether to submit it as a world record.

Dr C P Habiburrahman, chairman, Unity Health complex, Dr Varghese, Dr Bhat, J P Shetty, managing director, and Ajmal were present at the press meet.
