Udupi, Dec 4: A Uttar Pradesh youth was arrested while trying to dig the premises of Sayyad Arabi mosque near Uchila here in the small hours of Thursday December 4.  The arrested reportedly later said that he was digging the grounds to plant a bomb inside the mosque.

The arrested has been identified as Uday (Buddage) (22) alias Mohan, a native of Uttar Pradesh. He was caught while digging the frontal portion of the mosque around 2 am on Thursday. Though initially he said that he was digging the ground to install a Lord Ganesha idol, later he disclosed that he wanted to plant a bomb within the mosque premises. It is said that there were three more persons with him, who fled the place, as soon as the locals came to the spot.

The incident came to light when a nearby resident Yousuf heard the sound of digging around 2 am on Thursday. When he spotted a person digging the mosque premises, he passed on the message to a few more nearby residents. When they came to the spot, three persons who were with Uday fled the place while Uday was caught. While one of the persons who fled the place is identified as Arjun, the others are yet to be identified.

During the initial interrogation, Uday said that he had been directed by Arjun to plant bomb within the mosque premises. He also gave the mobile number of Arjun. But when police called the number, it was switched off.

Some sources claimed that Uday has lost control over his senses and is mentally unstable. But this opinion too cannot be taken as truth, since he had jumped over two gates before reaching the mosque premises. He had a spade with him. If he was a mentally unstable person, he would have come during the broad daylight itself, instead of coming the midnight, said a local while speaking to this correspondent. While the exact motive behind this 'bomb' incident is yet to be ascertained, some are of the opinion that the foursome might have been digging to unearth some hidden treasure.

While this incident happened in the night, locals found that the ground was dug and then closed near the rear entry of the mosque. Immediately sniffer dogs, finger print experts and metal dectors squads were summoned the place. But nothing suspicious was found. At the same time no explosives have either been confiscated from Uday.

Padubidri police have taken Uday into their custody. The mosque situated in Bhaskar Nagar near Uchila has now been provided with heavy security. Since the news regarding bomb scare spread fast in the area, people have been thronging the place in large number. But the situation is under complete control after police and local leaders of both the communities took initiative in keeping things calm.

Udupi ASP M N Nagaraj, Karkala DySP Santhosh Kumar, Padubidri PSI Mohan Kottari, Kaup PSI Joy Anthony and others visited the place. Meanwhile the locals have appealed the administration to provide all the mosques with security. The incident has indeed scared the locals.

On the other hand KFD is said to have organized a protest at Uchila on Thursday afternoon in this regard.

Why? It's of no use in this corrupt world. High time to take law in your own hands. Just lynch him to death. Matter closed. Instant justice without delay.

I am really surprised to see the overwhelming response on this. Any such acts should be condemned. But I don't see you people were showing this interest when major attack happened on Mumbai city. When serious issues concerning national security comes, i see people response here are poor. I am very sad to say this.

Disturbing peace of the community should be condemned by all walks of life. Now immediately the Hindu leaders should condemn this act by this anti social group. KFD should not politicize the issue for their selfish end in the similar manner VHP,BD is doing. Let Hindu, Muslim, Christian leaders join hands and collectively outcast these groups and individuals from the society.

There is terror within our own country which has to be eliminated. When people of all faiths have joined hands there are some elements who just cannot bear to see this unity and are bent upon breaking this unity. We have to be wise while dealing with these miscrents and not fall a prey to their motives of creating communal disharmony

This the time for Muslim festival (EID), and some people don’t want to see the peace in our coastal Karnataka. We need to get together and fight against those terrorists. Terrorists don’t have any religion. Our political parties must stop dirty politics and work together for the growth of Karnataka and India. Political parties must stop playing with people feelings. Allah Bless all of us.

Anyone who is disturbing peace and harmony should be punished by the law of the land, irrespective of his/her religious affiliations. Some misguided youth are used by some anti-social and fanatic groups to spread terror in the country. Recent Mumbai terror attacks are an eye opener for all of us. Extremist ideology is very dangerous. Unfortunately, some young people are poisoned to carry out terror attacks, in the name of religion. Some external forces, with the help of internal groups are responsible for the terror attacks. Let us all unite and defeat the people who are spreading terror and communal disharmony.

If digging the ground near a mosque neccessitates a CBI enquiry, then what about Islamic terror perpetuated regularly by indian muslims in India? Which agency should probe it? Since when you people started posing confidence in Indian Government and Law enforcing agencies? Digging the ground is terror act but killing indians  is a  noble act?

A great job done by the person who first saw this. His contribution is not limited to just saving the mosque but also stopped a communal feud which would have errupted had the bomb gone off. I would like to thank him for his timely action.
