Dubai, Dec 6:  It was a triple celebration day for parishioners of St Vincent D Paul Church, Katapady residing in UAE. Their association 'Katpady Konkans' celebrated its third anniversary along with Vhodlen Fest and Christmas.

The event was held at Marhaba Banquet hall of Dubai Grand Hotel. The hall was completely overcrowded as it was attended by more than 300 guests. Programme was started at 12 noon with a prayer dance from Aviola Pereira. 'Katpady Konkans' ladies wing welcomed the gathering with their lively welcome song.

  • President Agnel D'Silva welcomed the gathering. In his welcome speech he reiterated that the Association needs to reach out and help the needy people back home and requested all Good Samaritans to extend their support to 'Katpady Konkans' so that they can give what is best back to the society.

Secretary Agnel Rodrigues presented the brief report of Katpady Konkans where in he mentioned the achievements and the noble work done by Katpady Konkans in the past year.

The main attraction of the programme was the felicitation to Hilary Pinto of Al-Faris Group, who is the main patron of Katpady Konkans. Hilary Pinto, who is having a tremendous influence on the youth of Katpady, is instrumental in providing the daily bread to hundreds of families from Katpady. Recognizing his various social services to the community, 'Katpady Konkans' rightly honoured him. He was presented with a shawl, bouquet and a memento. Hilary Pinto’s wife Lorna Pinto and mother Lilly Pinto were also called on to the stage and honoured with bouquets.

All the sponsors and well-wishers were called on to the stage and honoured by “Katpady Konkans” for their continued support and encouragement.

One of the main aspects of the programme was the felicitation to the finalists of ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore’ Donald Correa and Victoria Suares, the proud daughter-in-law of Katpady who was specially flown in from Muscat. Both Donald and Victoria thanked Katpady Konkans for their kind gesture.

Local band 'Shylon' led by Lancy Noronha and Carlo kept the audiences on their toes with some scintillating numbers.

A group dance 'Pappu Can’t Dance Saala’ from small kids Abil, Jenessa, Darron and Anlon was appreciated by one and all with a thunderous applause.

'Gumttam' from Karaval Milan team brought back the nostalgic memories of yester years among the audience.

The jam-packed audience enjoyed the day which was full of variety of programmes like skit from Roshan Vaz and Steven, dances from Lisha, Aaviola and Sweeny.

Arrival of Santa Claus sent the children on 'grabbing-spree' as they vied with each other to receive sweets and gifts from him. It was clearly the advent of Christmas which was welcomed by all with gusto.

Buffet lunch served by Dubai Grand Hotel was relished by all the guests. During lunch break 'Shylon' band entertained the crowd. After lunch break it was the time for Tulu comedy Drama 'AA-DA-Ma Cafe.' It was a complete laughter-riot for almost two hours. The spectators who were glued to their seats kept applauding the performance from talented actors from Katapady. Special mention needs to be made of Dominic Pinto, Lavina Fernandes and Arun Monteiro who presented a scintillating performance with natural flair. Although most of the actors were acting almost after a decade they did not leave a single inch of doubt regarding their absenteeism from stage.

Raffle draw was conducted and valuable prizes were distributed. Roophus D'Souza conducted American Housie while Agnel Rodrigues conducted the American Auction.

The entire programme was compered by UAE’s household Emcee Donald Correa. As usual he kept the audience busy with his jokes and innovative spot games. Attractive prizes were distributed to winners.

It's a positive sign that the "Katapadi Konkans" are rocking the Dubai world!I got to know the wonderful people of Katapadi parish while I did my regency there from 2006-2007. May your 'three-fold' celebration be soon turned into a 'hundredfold' joyous occasion, and may God continue to bless your efforts to build a konkan community among the diaspora.

Dear Katapadi Konkans, I as the Parish Priest of Katapadi, take immense pride in seeing u all at the celebration st Dubai. Of course the invitation was extended to me by the President Agnel D'silva and others too. But due to my other engagements in Holy Cross in Pune, I could not make it to be present for the function. As I went through the snaps and the newsbits, I can imagine the effort and the planning that is gone through to make it a successful event. Congratulations to all the office bearers of Katapadi Konkans Association. I wish u all well and success. This kind of annual celebrations and coming together will really bring you closer as a unit to support and help each other. wish u all well in your work and life away from home, Katapadi. God Bless you all.
