Kuwait: Emerging Stars Make Sterling Debut at KCWA Christmas Celebrations

  • Kuwait, Dec 5: Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) under the leadership of Jossie Pinto Nantoor celebrated its annual Christmas Party at CARMEL SCHOOL Auditorium (basement hall) on Friday December 5 from 3:30 pm to 9:00 pm. 

    The programme commenced with an introduction from Anil Fernandes inviting the judges of the various competitions to the stage along with Steven Misquith, the time-keeper for the competitions. KCWA has always been a platform for the youth in encouraging them to build a bright future. Likewise there were young MC Andrea, Paloma, Stephna and Ria to conduct the various competitions. Christine gave a brief introduction on the competitions and the young MCs. There were fancy dress competitions for age groups 3 to 8, dance competition for the age group 9-12, traditional dress competition for age group 13-19 and couple dance for 19 and above. After appreciating the efforts of the young MCs, the judges of the competitions were welcomed on the stage and were honoured by president Jossy Pinto followed by president’s speech. 

    Mabel Alphonso, Sam Alphonso, P V Saldanha and Lawrence D’Souza-sponsored merit scholarships were awarded to the students of tenth and twelfth standard for academic excellence in Kuwait and India.  'Spinney’s Confectionery' sponsored extra-curricular award for members' children was awarded for the child who won in CBSE inter-school competitions, inter-college competitions or represented the school outside the state/country in the academic year 2007-08.  

    Different games were conducted for children of different age group.  Lots of spot prizes were given in between.  The late Johny Suratkal award was presented to Gulf Voice of Mangalore winner Vinay Lewis and Joyline Gonsalves. Austine Staline took the honour on behalf of Vinay as he has traveled to India on vacation.  Both of them were honored with flowers and mementos.

    Fr Melwyn delivered the Christmas message to the gathering followed by magic show from Dolphy and Anil. A short skit was played on Christmas with a difference.  Prizes were distributed to the competition winners. Children were excited and loaded with lots of chocolates and gifts along with Santa’s entry.  

    Special member’s draws were held for the active member present on the venue and also for renewal of membership for 2009, new members and the persons who introduced new members.  Hamper draw was held with fabulous prizes during the event. Anil delivered the word of gratitude and visiting priest Fr. Valerian offered the grace before meal.  A grand Mangalorean dinner prepared by Little India Restaurant was served at the end.
