Mangalore, Dec 8: A boat belonging to Abdul Razak, Bolar, set a new record by bringing in 17 tonne of black squids (lCuttlefish) in a day. The boat named ‘Nisha’ sailed into the old port with its mammoth cargo on Saturday December 6.

Suresh Kumar, director, Fisheries Department, verified that it was indeed a new record and this would be legally notified in the coming days. Normally, squids are common during the month of September, but getting such a huge catch in December, is just sheer luck, said Razak.

Majeed, a businessman, said that the black squids would have fetched at least Rs 110 per kg before the American recession set in, but currently it would sell for about Rs 70 per kg.
