Complete water projects before summer, Kejriwal tells DJB


New Delhi, Jan 11 (IANS): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday directed the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to complete the proposed water augmentation projects for the national capital before the summer sets in as the government aims to end the usual water problem the national capital faces during the hot season.

"Our aim is that the people of Delhi should not face the problem of water in the coming summer season. We must execute all these projects of water augmentation before summer sets in," Kejriwal, who also heads the DJB, directed the officials during a review meeting in Delhi Secretariat.

The DJB, in the meeting, submitted the action plan and presented the timelines for water augmentation projects for which the government had set the deadline of March 31.

The government also fixed individual responsibilities for the projects which aims to do away with the problem of water faced by the city during summers.

The Chief Minister said all these projects have to be completed and whatever hurdles come in the way have to be cleared and promised all support from the government.

The Chief Engineers of the respective areas (South, West, East and Central and North)were made accountable for the projects in their areas and they would be directly asked for updates of projects in their areas.

The reviewed projects, which got government's nod on January 2, are water extraction from six locations between Palla and Okhla, development of recently identified water pockets in Dwarka, installation of bores in areas with high water table and restarting the closed ranney wells and borewells across Delhi.
