Mangalore: Rachana Awards Announced - Leo Rodrigues Bags NRI Entrepreneur Award

Mangalore, Jan 1: Popular community leader and one of the leading NRI entrepreneurs from Abu Dhabi Leo Rodrigues is among the Rachana 2009 award winners, which was announced on the new year day in Mangalore.
Leo Rodrigues is the proprietor of Al Mazroui and Clevy Automobiles, Abu Dhabi and also the president of Konkani Cultural Association, Abu Dhabi.
Young Industrialist Francis D'Souza from Palimar, who heads Plant-tech Group of Companies in Bykampady, has been awarded the Rachana Entrepreneur of the year award.
John Veigas from Mogarnad has been awarded with the 'Rachana Agriculturist of the year'.
Dr Derek Lobo, physician by profession is the 'Rachana Professional of the year'. He has served WHO (World Health Organisation) for 14 years and is specialised in leprosy relief work.
Dr Olinda Pereira from the city, who is one of the dynamic women around and known for social service and community service, has been conferred the 'Rachana Outstanding Woman of the year' award.

RACHANA - Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a registered body which was founded in 1998, wishes to recognize and honour achievers of the community and has instituted The RACHANA AWARDS. This is the sixth consecutive year of giving away these awards and the awards are being given in the fields of Agriculturist, Professional, NRI Entrepreneur, and Outstanding Woman of the year.
The process began with Rachana calling for suggestions from the general public by giving it wide publicity through news papers, church announcements, internet etc.
A panel of juries consisting of twelve eminent individuals constituted for the purpose comprised of, Fr Walter D'Mello, Rudolph Rodrigues, Felix Albuquerque, Louis J Pinto, Marcel Monteiro, Edmund Frank, Joe Pradeep D'Souza, J.S. Noronha, Walter D'Souza, Roy Castelino, Ivan D'Souza and Cpt. John Prasad Menezes.
Speaking to daijiworld.com, Rachana president Ronald Gomes informed that the awards will be accorded at a grand awards ceremony being organized on Sunday January 11, 2009, at 6.30 pm at Milagres Jubliee Hall, Mangalore. Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangalore will preside over the function. Albert Tauro, chairman and managing director, Vijaya Bank will be the chief guest. The press and the public are requested to attend this prestigious programme, he added. The general public is requested to participate in the Awards function to honour and felicitate our achievers, so that others too may be inspired to excel in their fields, he explained.
