Hindu temple vandalised in Pak, PM orders swift action

Islamabad/Karachi, Feb 6 (PTI): A Hindu temple was vandalised in Pakistan's Sindh province by miscreants who set the holy books and idols on fire, drawing a strong reaction from Prime Minister Imran Khan who ordered swift and decisive action against the perpetrators.

The incident happened last week in Kumb, a town in Khairpur district. The unidentified assailants fled the after vandalism.

Khan on Tuesday night took to Twitter to call upon the provincial authorities to take swift action against the culprits.

"The govt of Sindh must take swift and decisive action against the perpetrators. This is against the teachings of the Quran," Khan said.

The community has approached the police to register a case against unidentified persons.

There was no caretaker at the temple because the community felt that it was safe enough since it was surrounded by their houses.

After the incident, the Hindus in the area held a protest in the city, Samaa TV reported.

Rajesh Kumar Hardasani, the adviser of the Pakistan Hindu Council, has demanded the formation of a special task force for the security of Hindu temples.

"This action has caused unrest among the Hindu community. These types of attacks are done in an attempt to disturb religious harmony across the country," he said.

Police said that they were hunting for the attackers but so far no arrest was made. Nobody or group took responsibility of the attack.

Hindus form almost two per cent of the 220 million population in Muslim-majority Pakistan. Most of the Hindus live in Sindh province.

They often complain of harassment by the extremists.

Holy places vandalism should be decried by one and all including recent one in U.S.
However, if Govt is impartial, acting as per constitution, people are not worried much. It will normalise.
If Govt is partial such issues are very serious, contagious, situation can get out of control!

Dear Karthik, please do not generalize, please see how United Arab Emirates is so tolerant to the minorities.

From 3rd February to 5th February Pope visited Abu Dhabi on the invitation of the rulers of Abu Dhabi and you should see the hospitality extended to his holiness pope by the rulers which is beyond our imagination.

The rulers even given land in Abu Dhabi to construct a temple. This will be the second temple in U.A.E.

Now you feel the heat when your community is on the receiving end.

You must also think about the minorities living in India.

After the arrival of Chaiwala, minorities are living in fear. Only because of opposition parties we are still able to live comparatively free life. Otherwise even our situation would have been worst in India.

By the way why more and more Hindus are going to gulf leaving our country? Do you have any answer for this? Moreover, Hindus those who go to gulf and other western countries never want to return back to India. Hope you know this fact.

Firstly , Minorities are getting may preiviliges in India, many bhagyas, allowance, Haj subsidy etc .So its wrong to tell this. Opposition parties uses minorities only for vote bank. Secondly Indian muslims are not considered real muslims in the gulf region. You have to read the words from the great scholar Muhammad al-Arifi on this subject. So there is no reason for you to equate yourself with Arabs. Trust this clarifies.
