Haveri: Rahul Gandhi blames BJP for JeM chief Masood Azhar's release

Haveri, Mar 9 (IANS):Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday blamed the BJP for setting free Masood Azhar, chief of terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed, in 1999.

"My questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi are: Who killed the CRPF soldiers? Who is the chief of JeM -- it is Masood Azhar. It was BJP that escorted him back from an Indian jail," Gandhi said at a rally at Municipal Grounds in this Karnataka town, about 350km from state capital Bengaluru.

The JeM has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on February 14, killing 40 troopers.



Gandhi said the then Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government, headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, had escorted the terrorist to Kandahar in Afghanistan from an Indian jail.

"Congress won't bow to terror," he said.

JeM head Azhar and two other militants Mushtaq Ahmed and Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh were freed in exchange for hijacked Indian Airlines passengers by then External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh in 1999.

    There was an All-Party meeting before the decision of releasing the terrorist was taken..!
    If Political parties had some plans they should have advised the then PM.
    There was no other alternative... Commando raid was not a feasible option as the plane was in Kandahar(Gandhara) which was completely understand Taliban control. Research and Analysis Wing had also stated that everything was out of control once the plane left Indian Airspace.
    Time to talk sensibly during election time. People today are smart with smart phones in hand.

    there was no all party meeting held 2 release prisoners from indian jai. vajpayee took decision 2 release masood azhar & other prisoners from indian jail 2 kandhar. bjp leadership just wasted da time & allowed da plane 2 fly 2 kandahar with our f.m. escorting da terrorists 2 kandahar. releasing masood azhar was a blunder & v da citizens r facing da music & tax paid money wasted 4 kargil war & 4 26/11 + pulwama soldiers death. becoz of bjp baimani jumla pirkis.

    The fact remains the same. Yes it is the BJP led NDA government and Vajpayee was the P.M and Jaswant Singh was the minster escorted the 3 dreaded terrorist for exchange. Decision was by the government for the release of passengers. Having said that the Jaish e mohammed(JEM) wouldn't have been born if our government was determined to take some other negotiation at that critical time. One thing is clear BJP's foreign policy is not at all up to the mark. They have failed in all counts because RSS decides their foreign policies. Mr. Manmohn Singhji was a "great statesman" who never visited Pakistan but our FEKHU P.M Narendra Modi went to Pakistan to hug Nawab Shariff and ate biriyani there. This is the same man before 2014 general election is to accuse then UPA government for diplomatic relationships and eating biriyani. End of the day what Modi preached and professed then did not pratice at all. So now Modi deserves whatever Rahul ia saying. Tum kare toh chamatkaar aur hum kare toh....Modi is the biggest lier in guiness book of world records!

    When Masood Azhar was released, Govt of the day wanted to secure the lives of people in the plane. They did not have other alternative. Even the opposition during that time insisted on safety people in plane.

    Hello ??? Masood Azhar was arrested in 1994 and was serving his sentence in jail. He was released in 1999. Why didn't ABV govt hang it ??

    Who killed during 26/11, 2008 attack, Hemant Karkare who was the chief of the Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS). In fact, its is said that he was martyred in action during the 2008 Mumbai attacks after being shot three times in the chest. He was investigating Malegao blast and many sensitive blasts , which was done by terror groups connected to fringe groups.

    After 2008 Bombay attack, there was not a single attack on Indian soil by the terrorist till 2014. That was the brain work of Congress party leaders. They never made noise like a mad man. Instead they used all the available resources to sabotage the terror activities of our enemy.

    You pushed five years asking this. Please explain what you did in the past five years. And, how much revenue you had to do it, while what Congress had in it's treasury when it got India liberated from the British in 1947.

    Please explain how much you added to the nation's finances, how many youth got employed, how many satellites you sent (within 5 years solely, not those started before), how many universities established, Hospitals built, how many dams, bridges, railway tracks you laid, please explain.

    BJP created Jaish-e-Mohammad by releasing Masood Azhar during the Kandahar standoff in 1999.

    The Pulwama attacks would not have taken place had the JeM not been created. And who created JeM? The BJP, by releasing Masood Azhar. Who escorted Masood Azhar to Afghanistan? BJP. What did Masood Azhar do after that? He formed Jaish-e-Mohammad.
    The Vajpayee government relented and asked the then External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh and the then Intelligence Bureau Chief Ajit Doval to escort the three terrorists to Kandahar in Afghanistan, where they were handed over to the Taliban.
    This is the first time Congress and its president Mr.Rahul Gandhi has spoken the fact. The party needs to stick to the same rhetoric in its coming election campaign in every election rally to create an awareness among the voters.
    The Congress party should also focus on the ouster of Intelligence Bureau Chief Ajit Doval who is also a member of Vivekananda foundation of RSS wing for the failure protect the CRPF jawans despite the intelligence warning.
    It is time for Congress to support Shiva Sena Chief Udava Thackrey who is the only person among all the political party wanted an inquiry against the Intelligence chief.
    The Congress party should also question the central government about Ajit Doval son who is British Citizen investments in India's defense that is against the law the country.

    Mr Poojary - JeM has killed so many more people than those in the Plane so how do you justify that? Kandahar Hijack would not have necessarily killed all the Passengers. Our Government could have continued negotiations instead of releasing dreaded terrorists in exchange. So many hijackings have taken place involving different countries and have you ever seen release of such terrorists? so the sole blame for formation of JeM lies with the BJP who released their Chief and he has become the most wanted man now for India. BJP policy is well known - let people go and then make drama to bring them back - Vijay Mallya, Mehul Choksi, Nirav Modi.

    One cannot have double standard. If JeM chief Masood was left by BJP in exchange for the lives of 160 passengers, then, who has compromised the Indian security. Why BJP is hiding the fact, when the hijacked plane was landed in Indian airport for fuel, why immediately our commandos have not taken immediate action. This shows the in competency of BJP and the root cause of JeM chief Masood's all anti Indian terror act in India.
