Mangaluru, Apr 2: The district police observed Police Flag Day and Welfare Day at police grounds here on Tuesday, April 2. 

IPS (probationary) Pradeep and RPI DAR Ashok Kumar led the parade. Six contingents of police force, namely the Karnataka state reserve police, district armed reserve police, Mangaluru city civil police, district civil police, women police, and traffic police accompanied by police band took part in the celebration.

Addressing the gathering, retired police officer Uday M Nayak said, "Policing has become easy due to advanced technology. I urge every police personnel to treat complainants in a good way and listen to their problems which should be addressed at the earliest. We need to think about our future too. Earlier, there was only LIC, but now there are various facilities. Please take benefit of it and make your future strong.”

IGP (western range) Arun Chakravathy said, "Police Welfare Day and Police Flag Day are two very important occasions for police personnel where we will remember martyrs who sacrificed their lives. On Flag Day, we honour retired police officers. We should respect and honour police officers who serve us for so long. Our service is not permanent. One or the other day we have to retire. But in this process, we will lay strong foundation to earn respect from the society and colleagues,”

“Criminals think that they can beat the system and get away from it. But we, the police take it as a challenge to stop them,” he added.

Meanwhile, retired police officer Uday M Nayak was felicitated, who released police flags which were later sold to the members present.

As many as 64 police personnel who retired in the year 2018-19 were honoured on the occasion.

Police commissioner Sandeep Patil welcomed the gathering, and commandant KSRP Janardhana R rendered the vote of thanks.
