Mangaluru: People detect diversion of public distribution rice - Police investigate

Mangaluru, Jul 6: In an incident which happened near Kulshekar here on the night of Friday July 5, the general public detected alleged illegal diversion of rice meant for public distribution, and handed over the stock to the police.

The locals observed that rice was being transported in a lorry near Kulshekar here during late night hours along with animal feed. They intercepted the lorry and during checking, found about the alleged racket involved with illegal sale of rice belonging to the government. When the angry people surrounded the lorry, its driver ran away.

About 50 quintals of rice was found in the lorry. This rice was handed over to the local police.

The police undertook further investigation. The officials of food and civil supply department were also informed about this development.

Later reports said that the owner of the lorry produced proper receipts and it was found that there was nothing illegal in the dealing and transportation.
