Mangalore: Five Eminent Achievers Receive ‘Rachana Awards’

Mangalore, Jan 10: The prestigious ‘Rachana Awards’, instituted by ‘Rachana’, the Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, were conferred on five eminent personalities for their achievements in various fields on Sunday January 10 in a grand function held at Milagres Silver Jubilee Hall in the city.
The awards were presented by Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza and were accompanied by a felicitation.
The recipients of the awards were Richard Monteiro of Bantwal (Agriculturist of the Year), Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief of Daijiworld.com (Entrepreneur of the Year), Dr Anand Titus Pereira, Sakaleshpur (Professional of the Year), Leslie Fernandes of Bahamas, (NRI Entrepreneur of the Year), and Mabel Rebello of Jharkhand (Outstanding Woman of the Year).
“The service rendered to the society by the awards should be continued and the award is a matter of pride for all the community members. So, recognizing of service by Rachana and achievement by the community members should also continue”, said the Bishop in his presidential address.
J Crasta, president of Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was the chief guest of the programme who said that youths from the community should get involved in business and need to become entrepreneurs.
“Parents, despite dreaming and sending their children for engineering and medicine, need to encourage them to enter the field of business”, he said, adding that education and the religious system should also work on encouraging children to become entrepreneurs.
“The community members should reach the governments and governing body to get the projects and funds reserved for or allotted to the minority communities”, said Crasta.
Ronald Gomes, president of Rachana, welcomed all with a brief introduction about the awards.
The jury of the award was made up of Fr Walter D’Mello, Louis J Pinto, Walter D’Souza, Dr Meera Aranha, Marjorie Texeira, Rudolph Rodrigues, Marcel Montiero, Roy Castelino, Joe Coelho, Dr Derick Lobo, Felix Albuquerque, Edmund Frank, Ivan D’Souza, Capt John Prasad Menezes, and Norbert Shenoy, were honoured by the chief guest.
Former presidents of Rachana were also honoured by the Bishop.
Lester A D’Souza, secretary of Rachana, proposed the vote of thanks. Master of the ceremony Titus Noronha gave an introduction about Rachana and Trishma Pinto conducted the programme during the award presentation.
This is the seventh consecutive year the awards have been given by Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
