Mangaluru: Virtual national Sports Day held at Shakthi Residential School

Mangaluru, Aug 29: The birth anniversary of the hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand, was observed as the national Sports Day was celebrated at Shakthi Residential School.

Dr Kishore Kumar C K, the director of Physical Education at Mangalore University was the chief guest. He stressed on the need to remain physically fit through various sports and games.

The present pandemic has led to physical and mental illness and sports serve as a medicine. Exercise and sports go hand in hand and walking jogging, running along with certain indoor games will help in physical fitness for the children as well as the elders at home. Recalling the contributions of Dhyan Chand, he conveyed that his dedication and passion towards hockey took him to greater heights.

Stressing the need to stay fit and healthy this day is observed to spread awareness on the importance of sports and daily activities in every individual’s life. He spoke on the need to balance academics and sports. "The present lifestyle and food habits have led to a lot of disorder therefore the need to implement sports activity at childhood arises," said Dr Kishore Kumar C K.



Initially Saksham Bolar, Saloni and Saira Dominic the students of Shakthi Residential School spoke on the significance of the day. The winners of the national Sports quiz and the ‘Traditional Game’ video contest winners were announced by Deepthi G.

Sreenivas B M, the Physical Education teacher tried to reminisce about the forgotten world of the ‘Grameena Kreede’ through a video presentation.

Dr K C Naik, the managing trustee of Shree Gopalakrishna Temple, Sanjith Naik, the secretary of Shakthi Education Trust, Ramesh K the chief advisor, Prakyath Rai, the Institute Development Officer, Prabhakara G S, principal of Shakthi PU College, Vidya Kamath, principal of Shakthi Residential School, Neema Saxena, co-ordinator of Shree Gopalakrishna Pre-School, teaching and non-teaching staff along with the parents and students were connected virtually. Swathi Bharath introduced the guest while compering the show.
