Mangaluru, Oct 12: Addressing media here on Monday, October 12, secretary of Jeppu Parishioners Association, Cleeta Noronha said, "For several years there has been a dispute between Jeppu compound and the diocese of Mangaluru. On March 31, 2018, the then Bishop of the diocese called for withdrawal of cases against Valerian and Victor and to also give varg right to the resident of the Jeppu compound.
"Jeppu compound residents believed the assurance made by the former bishop and agreed to the agreement. Soon after the agreement, the bishop retired and was replaced by the new bishop. The matter has been closed for three years since the agreement and now neither has the agreement been implemented nor is there any visible progress. Whenever we approached the bishop for the same, he sent us away stating that we need permission from the Vatican Pope. How is the Vatican law applicable to the issue of the Jeppu compound?"
"We also approached Bishop House on September 24 regarding the withdrawal against Valerian and Victor, but the bishop's estate manager, Maxim Rosario urged for a signature on an application which includes several conditions to withdraw the cases against Valerian and Victor. There is a need to peacefully fight for justice to reveal the irregularities and injustice by the bishop.
President of the association Wilson Baptist, member Sathish Fonseca and others were present.
