Mangalore, May 23: The bodies of 87 victims of Saturday's plane crash have been identified and handed over to their relatives, while 25 bodies are still remains unidentified on Sunday May 23.

A forensic team arrived from Hyderabad in the morning to conduct DNA tests to identify bodies charred beyond recognition. The Air India (AI) officials informed that AI's top priority was to co-ordinate relief measures for the families of the victims, complete the identification process and hand over the bodies.

















































The number of bodies to be identified with DNA tests is still not clear as relatives and friends of the victims continued their efforts to try and recognize their near and dear ones through the night at the Government Wenlock Hospital mortuary. Heart-rending scenes were witnessed at Wenlock as grieving relatives and friends had to go through the traumatic experience of looking at scores of badly burnt bodies to identify them.  

The anxious and mourning family members of the victims assembled in the hospital since Saturday have been heard complaing the elaborate procedure involved to claim the bodies. The relatives and friends of the victims were also seen moving about from one hospital to the other as services of the other private hospitals were sought by the district administration.

With the help of the central government, three-day interim visas will be issued to the relatives from abroad to claim the bodies, AI officials informed. The airline will also operate additional special flights to ferry families of the victims, he added.  

AI chairman-cum-managing director Arvind Jadhav has been at the site of the crash, visiting the hospitals, co-ordinating the relief and support measures, along with officials from multiple agencies and consoling relatives of victims. 

All eight survivors of the crash, being treated at various hospitals in the city, were out of danger. Most of them had suffered cuts, bruises or minor burn injuries.

    I agree that death comes untold, but I pray to God that even the worst of our enemies should not get a death like this (AI crash). I have lost my beloved cousin Denis Saldana and my 5 year old nephew Ashton Saldana.We were not aware of their journey as they wanted to suprise us for the function.No doubt we did get a suprise, but it was a suprise of huge grief than happiness.
    I request everyone to please pray for our entire Saldana and D'souza family is in grief and all the other people too who have lost their beloved ones.

    But this is a nightmare of unimaginable proportions, to see charred bodies of your loved ones barely recognisable - the trauma of these sights will not be easy to live through

    It is horrible enough that we lost our only two sons in NZ 18 months ago and are still reeling under the staggering blow.

    But this is a nightmare of unimaginable proportions, to see charred bodies of your loved ones barely recognisable - the trauma of these sights will not be easy to live through

    What will ease the blow is the love and care of the family and community and of course, the solace and strength that only God provides in these trying times.

    Our hearts go out to be with the sorrowful and we pray in silence for the slow, but sure, healing power of God to help you bear this loss.

    This is the worst death one could ever get. I pray god to give strength to the families of the victims to bear this pain and also pray that no one else get this kind of death! Rest in Peace @ all the poor souls!
