Bengaluru: Lady lawyer blackens litterateur Prof Bhagawan's face with ink in court campus

Bengaluru, Feb 4 (IANS): A woman lawyer and a politician, Meera Ragahvendra has smeared black ink on rationalist Kannada writer K. S. Bhagwan's face, besides heckling him in a city Magistrate Court premises.

She has not only dared him to initiate any action against her but she has posted on her Twitter as well, justifying her action and posted 34 second clip on her Twitter timeline too.

In her Twitter bio, she claims that she is a politician, but does not mention the name of the party with which she is associated.

She asserts that Bhgawan succeeded in getting bail for a case related to hurting Hindu's feelings but 'I am content that I smeared ink on his face' Jai Sri Ram, she said in her tweet on Thursday.

In a clip, a woman (whose identity could not be independently verified by the IANS) is heard shouting against the writer, saying he should be 'ashamed' for his stand on religion. "You are a professor and so old, yet you continue to speak rubbish about our religion Hinduism and the Gods. Aren't you ashamed of yourself," she is heard yelling at Bhagwan.

Bhagwan is one of the harshest critics of Sanatana Dharma and its rituals and he has written books against Lord Rama. His books and views on Hindu religion have come under severe criticism from the right wing that accused him of giving views that are'aanti-Hinduism'.

Recently, Karnataka has dropped his book 'Rama Mandira Yeke Beda' (Why we do not need the Ram Temple)', opposing the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya from the public libraries run by the government.

A police team probing the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh said Bhagwan's name was also on a list of targets of the alleged killers. He has been provided security for the last few years due to the threat perception against him.

Raghavendra had pinned message on herr timeline on December 17, 2020 to announce that she had filed a case against him and he would soon be summoned by the court.

The DCP of central Anuchet said a case has been filed against the woman, Meera Raghavendra.

"When he got out of the car, she smeared him with the ink," a police officer said.

In his complaint, Bhagwan alleged threats to his life.

The police have registered a case of wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation and is investigating.

What a shame .Hot blood ,is a lawyer?cant believe. She acted as a roadside rowdy. She can be a real follower of Kalladka Bhat.If the Lit.Professor has written against Hindu religion ,should have gone against him as a lawyer with respect and good manner. Now she has not only blacked his face ,but the law and she self. One day she will realize that was nt a heroic act.but a mies way to humanity.Religion doesnt teach this in none of our books, either Hindu,Muslim ,or Christen.Buddism.or whatever other religion.Over that she said ,"you are so old"Is it the way to respect a elder person?will she be ever so old when she rides on a high horse?Self Hindus respect elder people more than others. Here?is it Hinduism?God forgive her ,but law must punish her.

A famous art painter paints a nude photo of Godess Saraswati. Liberal India should celebrate it. A atheist passes derogatory comment on Lord Ram. We are a liberal society deal with it. Army storms Golden temple from where terrorist fire with advanced assault weapons and the General and PM who authorized are killed. It is fine because they deserved it. The same liberal society in different manifestation draws cartoons - No...it is not allowed. People around the world protest and there are many killings. Then we have Salman Rushdie a celebrated Mumbai born writer....no he has no place in our liberal society. Now this lawyer...she took ink, no acid, no killing etc., but she should be deplored. What about her feelings of insult to her God...she should take it lying down because, we are liberal. How many such hypocrisy are we going to deal with before we call spade a spade?

KS Mayya... irrespective, you cannot take law in your hands, and especially a lawyer, that too on the premises of court. In fact, the court should cancel her license to practice immediately. Yes, no action will be taken in India but she will be called a heroin especially in today's India. You made a remark about insulting other God's. If you see the world over, there are scores of insulting movies and comments about Jesus Christ but 99% of Christians don't react as everyone has a right to express their opinion. What about India. Most of the Bollywood movies show Christians in very poor light though they are the most respectable and educated lot, but show me anyone taking action on them. We do express our concern but we don't attack. Years back when Hindu's attacked church and desecrated the Holy Tabernacle in Mangalore, even those Christian youth who try to stop them were mercilessly beaten by BJP goons - so called Police, the protector of Law! Whom did they protect? The third rate goons. You know what Christianity did not perish but has become even more vibrant as it believes in forgiveness. The point is, don't say, the lawyer actin is right. It is wrong and she needs to be punished severely.

Most of the rationalists who dared speak have been killed by fundamentalists; this lawyer has done this for the purpose of cheap publicity taking advantage of the present situation in the country knowing very well that she will be supported even though it was an unlawful and disgraceful act! God Almighty doesn't need a mortals support! BTW, such cheap stunts are comitted by insecure people! World is watching how a great country is going back to the stone ages; this lawyer has brought disrepute to the legal profession!

Dear Rudolf Rodrigues, Mumbai it is only India where you get to profess it and speak in favor of these atheists. You are perfectly fine as long their atheist feeling does not manifest into speaking against Jesus and founder of Islam. Deluge and derogatory words are best if saved against Hindus isn't it? In these closely connected world, how long do you think that you can live in this fool's paradise that enables complete denigration of non-**slim, non-**ristian followers with finely tuned disregard within the confines of constitution against anything anyone and all who are the followers of a religion rhyming with "Indu"?

What a mockery of the legal system by a practising lawyer whose duty is to uphold the law and not bring it into disrepute. I guess if the professor had used a lawyer to represent him, would she have dared to do this terrible act without instant revenge? All at the court premises.... Fundamentalists have no scruples; they are prepared to defend their gods, whether it is Rama, Shiva, Allah or Jesus - speaking against a deity is sacrilege, but taking law into own hands is even more. God has not appointed her as his executioner!

This lady should be stripped of her lawyer position and jailed for insulting a person in court. She has no right to take law in her hand. She being a lawyer has betrayed our constitution which asks us to respect every citizen. If she do not agree with one's comments, she should no right to mishandle him or she. However, she has bright future in bjp and will be awarded.

Quite shocked to see this. God in every form must be respected. If a person has knowingly or unknowingly harmed the feelings of any religion, we must seek redressal through our Legal system. Otherwise, people who are imparting justice will become the tormentors of the law. We appreciate the anger this lady lawyer has had in her. But the demonstration of anger in such a atrocious way is not a good example to our young kids; even Lord Ram would not have liked it. Are we breeding a new generation with such a temperament? One must love even one's own enemy. I lived in the Arab countries for nearly 40 years; I remember many of my Arab friends telling me - even though the population is so high, India is the one country where peace and love flows un-endingly. Today I feel hurt seeing all this happening in our country.
