Udupi, Jul 13: It was a day of fun and frolic as well as learning experience for about 30 students on Sunday July 11. A unique competition of planting rice saplings in a paddy field in the neighbourhood of Kaup had been organized to uphold dying regional tradition.
K P Acharya, correspondent of Vidyaniketan Group of Education Institutions, Kaup inaugurated the competition at the Kaup High School here. Anant Padiyar, president of Rotary Club, Kaup presided.
More than 30 students participated in the competition. Rotary and Rotaract Club organized the competition with the view of promoting traditional culture based on agrarian society of contemporary times in Tulunadu.
Rotary assistant governor Ramesh Bhandary, zonal lieutenant Manohar Rao, Kaup Mahadevi High School headmaster Mohan Suvarna, Ucchila Saraswati High School headmaster Baburaya Acharya and taluk panchayat member Jagdish Acharya were the chief guests. Kaup Rotary secretary Laxman Poojary proposed the vote of thanks.
