Udupi, Jul 21: The low-lying areas in the neighbourhood of Kaup, near here, were inundated on Tuesday July 20 due to the incessant rains that have lashed the region over the past few days.

Pangala, Majoor, Padoor, and Udyavar have been flooded by the torrential rains that have partially affected daily life.

The floods from Pangala tributary of Swarna River flooded the access road to Halade Temple, located near Pangala bridge on NH 17, forcing the residents to reach their homes in canoes.  The paddy fields that were planted with saplings a few days ago have been flooded and this is threatening the livelihood of farmers across the district.

Meanwhile, sea erosion has intensified due to a turbulent sea caused by torrential rains and high velocity winds.  The residents living along the sea shore are gathering in groups to assess the surge in sea erosion in the fisheries colonies.

The rising flood waters will test the disaster preparedness of various agencies under the district administration and take early measures to evacuate people to safety in areas that are threatened by further floods, besides saving the lives of people living along the sea-erosion prone coast.

Traffic Stalls on NH 17:

A large tree was uprooted on NH 17 between Pangala–Moodabettu, near here on Tuesday July 20 at about 2.45 pm.  The tree fell on a speeding passenger bus plying from Mangalore to Mumbai.  The front portion of the bus was extensively damaged, but all passengers miraculously survived the mishap.

The traffic on NH 17 was disrupted for nearly one hour and serpentine queues of traffic were formed on this stretch of highway.  Traffic was restored by Kaup police after clearing the branches of the tree that was uprooted in the middle of the highway with the help of locals.

Lovely scenario, even I remember my young age days where I with my friends used to wet when we go to school and teacher used to give us holiday on that day. On return we used to jump in the pool & swimming. Those days never come back. So sad! But Daiji world pictures reminds me all my young age. Thanks for Daiji world.

Wonderful photos Daijiworld, thank God for the lovely bountiful showers, reminds me of the sizzling monsoon extravaganza. I liked the 3rd photo very much i.e. the back of the green fresh velvety aromatic lush greenery alongwith coconut palm trees - in particular the professional photography of your photographer of the lady with the umbrella struggling to find a path to wade through the waters in the field. Reminds me when I as a teenager had to traverse that much of a distance and had to wade through knee deep water to help my aunt in her household errands to purchase grocery and other essential household items from the nearby shop. I really reminisce my childhood days, sadly, they will never return, alas they are down memory lane.

Since I came to Dubai I never missed the rain in India. This year I want to travell during October so I miss the rain very much. But we enjoy the rain thru Daijiworld with beautiful pictures of the nature. I feel as if I am in my native place. Really we get little relief watching those pictures. Here in UAE the climate is so hot (especially this year ) at 5:00 pm the temperature shows 49 degree. and we have frequent power cut in Sharjah since 1 week.
