Bangalore: No Official Farewell for Transferred CJ

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Aug 7: A gathering of High Court (HC) advocates including senior advocates, K N Subbareddy, A V Amarnath and Ramamurthy, bid farewell to the state High Court Chief Justice (CJ), P D Dinakaran, on his transfer to Sikkim High Court, at his residence on the evening of Friday August 6. Perhaps for the first time in the history of the state, the state judiciary did not organize an official send-off function for an outgoing judge of the state High Court.

Apart from placing a Mysore Peta (Mysorean turban) on the CJ’s head, the advocates garlanded the CJ. Speaking to reporters, the CJ expressed his satisfaction about the work rendered by him and expressed gratitude to the Kannadigas. Most of the judges of the HC were present. HC judge, Justice Shylendra Kumar was not present.

The CJ is scheduled to go to Sikkim today. He had remained off HC judicial proceedings since the last nine months, as several allegations were levelled against him after his name was referred to the Supreme Court collegium for considering his promotion as a SC judge. As the HC registrar did not notify them, neither Advocates Association Bangalore, nor Bar Council, organized any function to bid adieu to the outgoing CJ.

It is learnt that the HC registrar decided against intimating the associations about the CJ’s departure, as there was opposition from certain quarters from within them for holding any farewell function for him.

It is not the good behaviour from the advocates. They are professionals, they should have given farewell to the CJ.
