Mangalore: Court Acquits Accused in Vamanjoor Rohi Murder Case

Mangalore, Nov 17: All the accused, who were charged by the prosecution of hatching and executing the murder plan of Vamanjoor Rohi, who was facing several criminal cases, on July 5, 2009, were acquitted by a local court. Rohi was attacked while sleeping in the house of his friend, Krishna Salian in Jyotinagar near Vamanjoor in the city.

The policemen had accused Murugesh, prime accused and past associate of Rohi, of commiting the murder with the help of others, at the instance of underground fugitives, Vishwanath Koraga Shetty, and others. A revolver and other weapons said to have been used for the murder, were recovered by the policemen. The policemen had named  other accomplices to the murder as  Sampat Bhandary (30) from Urundadigudde, Dhanraj Poojary (26) from Radhakripa Compound, Kottara Kalbavi Nagar, Santosh Kottary (23) from Jyotinagar and Krishnappa Salian (59). All of them stand exonerated.

In the judgment, second additional district sessions judge, R M Shettar, concluded that the prosecution has failed to conclusively prove the involvement of the accused with the said murder. All the accused, except Vishwanath Koraga Shetty and Nikhil Shetty, have been acquitted. These two accused, considered to be underground elements, have remained elusive all through.
