Colossal Gesture: Colaco's Rs 10 Lac Scholarships to Policemen's Kids

Mangalore, Dec 29: In a generous gesture, well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist Ronald Colaco has come forward to offer scholarships of Rs 1 lac each to 10 children of policemen serving under Dakshina Kannada rural police district and Mangalore City police commissionerate.
In all, scholarships worth Rs 10 lac will be presented to 10 meritorious children of police personnel in the two policing units, five each from standard 10th and second year PUC. The scholarships will help them pursue their higher education.
Making the announcement on Monday December 27, he said that it was his way of saying that the society was with the police and that it acknowledges their tireless efforts in serving the public. He also added that there was a need to pay attention to the education of the policemen's children and that they deserve better amenities which would enable them to lead decent lives.
Colaco had first made the offer to sponsor the education of children of police personnel under the Mangalore city police studying in the 10th standard. However, later on the advise of police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh he decided to include the entire Dakshina Kannada and extended the offer to second PUC students also.
Colaco has already asked Seemanth Kumar Singh to draw up a list of deserving candidates for the award and reiterated that the scholarships will be presented in due time without the need for any reminder.
