Tumakuru, Mar 4: The police from here have arrested a couple which targetted childless couples and cheated them by promising them to have children. Those who were misled by the couple lost their money, but some of them also lost their health and are struggling to recover. The couple, which claimed itself to be a doctor couple was arrested by the police personnel of Nonavinakere station in Tumakuru district. The identities of the couple have been given as Vani and Manjunath.

Vani used to move around in car with a doctor's logo. With a stethoscope in hand, she appeared like a perfect doctor. The couple made many couples not having children believe that they will get children if they used the medicines provided by the two and follow the regimen they prescribed. They used to fix a package of between two and five lac rupees per head and give to them injections, powders etc. They gave them instructions on how to maintain health and make it amply clear that no scanning should be done elsewhere.

The police arrested the couple based on complaints made by those who were taken for a ride by the couple and who lost both their money and health because of these fraudulent people without getting any benefits in return.

A couple which was getting treated by these two for the last six months grew suspicious and complained to the police. It was found that the couple had cheated five to six women from Belagarahalli in Tiptur taluk and collected Rs 2.5 lac from each of them.

After an injection was administered by the lady, the health of a woman experienced upheavals. Normally within two months of getting what the couple claimed to be some medicines, the women used to observe certain changes in their bodies. The said woman, within months of getting the injection, is fighting to survive. She already suffers from kidney, brain and heart-related complications. She is being treated in a private hospital in Bengaluru. Even after spending over ten lac rupees for treatment, her condition remains serious. When Vani was contacted about these complications, she had smirked from responsibility by giving some lame excuses. This lady too had complained to the police.

The police who began investigation, found the couple and arrested them from Sakleshpur. Ten lac rupees in cash and 250 grams of jewellery were confiscated from the accused. The Mahindra car with doctor’s logo which was used to mislead the people was also taken into custody. The police have information that the couple has cheated over 70 couples in Tiptur taluk alone. Many couples who lost money are hesitant to file complaints because of the fear of harming their status and reputation. The police are continuing with their investigating and hope to unearth more details soon.
